Job summary

Axos Bank is seeking a strategic technical leader to head AI engineering, architect our next-generation AI platform, set standards and best practices, mentor senior engineers, and drive AI-native development across the organization.

You will own the AI engineering vision, govern MCP servers and agentic systems, drive ROI analysis for AI initiatives, and communicate value to executives while advancing responsible AI governance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering and/or AI/ML engineering.
• 3+ years leading technical teams or shaping organizational technical strategy.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and deploying production AI systems at scale.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated expertise at strategic level).

Responsibilities

• Define and lead strategic AI engineering direction; establish architectural standards.
• Design enterprise-scale agentic systems and integration patterns.
• Establish best practices in prompt engineering, LLM integration, and workflows.
• Lead architecture of integrations with internal platforms and reuse patterns.
• Direct implementation of MCP servers; governance and data standards.
• Own AI skills and plugin platform; drive adoption and quality.
• Establish quality frameworks; define metrics and testing strategies.
• Drive ROI measurement and communicate value to executives.
• Lead cross-functional AI automation initiatives; design workflows.
• Mentor senior AI engineers and leadership growth.
• Champion responsible AI practices with guardrails.
• Define architectural decisions; lead design reviews.
• Establish discovery methodology for AI-driven solutions.
• Communicate AI strategy and ROI to executives.
