SJ Butler is hiring a Senior Accountant / Team Leader to lead high-quality tax and accounting work, guide junior staff, and ensure compliance with Australian tax rules. You will oversee workflows, review complex returns, and mentor peers to deliver accurate, timely client services.

Qualifications

• 6+ years' experience in Australian public practice, focused on tax and financial statement preparation.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian tax legislation and financial reporting standards.
• Confident using Xero, including Xero Tax.
• Clear, polished written and verbal communication.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring others.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and reviewing complex tax returns for individuals, companies, partnerships, and trusts.
• Preparing and reviewing financial statements in line with relevant accounting standards.
• Keeping all work compliant with Australian tax laws and regulations.
• Staying across the latest updates in tax legislation and accounting standards.
• Spotting opportunities to streamline processes and lift service quality.
• Overseeing and managing the team's workflow.
• Reviewing BAS, financial reports, and income tax returns prepared by intermediate and senior accountants and bookkeepers.
• Making sure every job meets our standards, budgets, and deadlines.
• Helping the team work smarter, with stronger quality control and consistency across compliance work.
