Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting project-based cost accounting specific to the construction industry. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the organization and supporting strategic decision-making.
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (IFRS or local GAAP).
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
Construction Project Accounting
- Track and monitor costs for multiple construction projects.
- Allocate costs by project, phase, cost code, and WBS (Work Breakdown Structure).
- Reconcile project budgets against actual expenditures.
- Work with project managers to prepare and analyze job cost reports and forecast profitability.
- Ensure all billings and cost transfers are properly recorded.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Oversee AP and AR processes, ensuring timely invoicing and payment collection.
- Approve supplier invoices, subcontractor payments, and expense claims in coordination with procurement and project teams.
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparing the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Track performance against budget and provide variance analysis reports.
- Support financial planning and cash flow projections.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including VAT/WHT filings and other statutory obligations.
- Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
- Maintain internal controls and support process improvements.
Payroll Support (if applicable)
- Review and verify payroll data submitted by HR.
- Ensure correct posting of payroll entries to the general ledger.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts.
Fixed Asset Management
- Maintain fixed asset register and perform periodic asset counts.
- Record asset additions, disposals, and depreciation entries.
Team Collaboration & Supervision
- Supervise junior accountants and provide guidance as needed.
- Collaborate closely with procurement, project management, HR, and site teams.
- Provide financial insights and support to management and project stakeholders.
- Perform other related tasks as may be assigned.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction or engineering sector.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, project costing, and revenue recognition.
- Familiarity with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or construction-specific software like Sage 300 CRE, COINS, or Procore).
- Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
