Job description

The Schedules & SOFA Consultant is responsible for supporting the #1 Schedules Team in the preparation, review, and filing of Schedules of Assets and Liabilities (Official Forms 206A/B-206H) and the Statement of Financial Affairs (Official Form 207). This role is entry level and intends to train the candidate as a subject matter expert on bankruptcy disclosure requirements and works closely with debtors, attorneys, financial advisors, and claims administration teams to ensure filings are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with the Bankruptcy Code, Bankruptcy Rules, and local court requirements.

The ideal candidate combines strong knowledge of accounting, exceptional analytical skills, and experience interpreting complex financial records while managing multiple high-profile engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

Serve as the primary consultant for assigned Chapter 11 engagements involving preparation of Schedules and SOFAs.

Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.

Coordinate with debtor personnel, bankruptcy counsel, financial advisors, and internal project teams.

Manage multiple concurrent engagements with competing deadlines.

Track project progress and proactively identify risks affecting filing deadlines.

Preparation of Schedules (SOALS)

Guide debtors through gathering and preparation of all required data

Analyze accounting records to identify assets and liabilities requiring disclosure.

Classify claims in accordance with bankruptcy requirements: Priority, non-priority, secured and the requirements under 507(a) of the bankruptcy code

Review supporting documentation for completeness and consistency.

Reconcile schedules to debtor financial statements and trial balances.

Preparation of Statement of Financial Affairs (SOFA)

Guide debtors through gathering and preparation of all required data

Review raw business and financial records and repurpose information into templates and forms.

Must understand how to review and interpret:

Payment registers and journal entries

Insider transactions

Corporate history and org charts

Ensure responses are supported by underlying accounting records.

Data Analysis

General ledger

Accounts payable ageing reports

Accounts receivable aging reports

Fixed asset records and depreciation schedules

Payroll records

Tax records

Perform reconciliations between financial records and bankruptcy schedules.

Identify inconsistencies requiring further investigation.

Quality Assurance

Conduct detailed reviews for accuracy and completeness.

Verify consistency across schedules, SOFAs, first-day pleadings, and supporting documentation.

Ensure disclosures comply with applicable bankruptcy forms and court requirements, including redaction protocol.

Client Consulting

Explain bankruptcy reporting requirements to debtor personnel.

Conduct working sessions with accounting, finance, HR, treasury, tax, legal, procurement, and operations teams.

Respond to client questions regarding disclosure requirements.

Recommend practical approaches for resolving data challenges.

Cross-Team Collaboration and Support

Coordinate scheduled liabilities data with case teams for claims register, bar date and solicitation purposes.

Work with Special Projects Team and the client to prepare and deliver schedule G.

Prepare Workproduct in support of Schedules Disclosures

Prepare and share client-ready workproduct supporting all disclosures, including AP analysis, SOFA 3 and 4 threshold analysis, UCC lien review.

Maintain audit trails for assumptions and data sources.

Assist with drafting explanatory global notes for schedules and SOFA responses when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

Degree or relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Ability to work under tight court-imposed deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex tasks using AI (co-pilot, chatgpt, claude)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience at a claims agent, law firm, or financial advisory firm specializing in restructuring.

Understanding of corporate accounting and financial reporting.

3-7+ years of Chapter 11 restructuring, bankruptcy consulting, claims administration, or financial advisory experience.

Strong understanding of:

Official Bankruptcy Forms 206 and 207 (Schedules and Sofas)

U.S. Bankruptcy Code
