Job summary

Confidential is seeking an Research & Development Specialist to lead product and process improvements for materials used in core products and to ensure cost efficiency and supply sustainability. The role involves coordinating with suppliers, driving technology transfer to local facilities, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a background in food technology or related fields and at least one year in food manufacturing, with familiarity of GMP/HACCP/ISO

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in food manufacturing.
• Experience implementing Food Safety and Quality Management Systems such as GMP, HACCP, FSSC, and ISO standards.
• Familiarity with food manufacturing operations, production planning, inventory control, and food safety management systems.
• Familiarity with food service or quick-service restaurant operational processes.
• Willing to be assigned to a manufacturing plant in Ortigas, Pasig City.

Responsibilities

• Leads product and process improvement initiatives for manufactured materials and cost efficiency.
• Develops operating procedures, process flow documentation, and product reference lists.
• Documents final manufacturing processes, standards, and specifications.
• Supports regulatory product registration by providing required technical documentation.
• Acts as a resource person within the area of expertise and participates in cross-functional projects.

Job description

The Research & Development Specialist leads product and process improvement initiatives for manufactured materials used in core and complementary products to achieve product superiority and cost efficiency. The role also ensures supply sustainability through the timely and accurate completion of raw material development projects and product technology transfer initiatives for local suppliers.

Product Superiority

• Creates basic formulations and/or processes aimed at developing or improving products. Commercializes product formulations developed by innovation teams.
• Collaborates with sensory and research teams to ensure accurate sensory descriptors and evaluation tools.
• Performs commercial translation and develops process parameters for manufacturing and finished goods quality monitoring.
• Develops operating procedures, process flow documentation, and product reference lists.
• Documents final manufacturing processes, standards, and specifications.

Qualification of Alternative Raw Materials and Manufacturing Partners

• Performs technology transfer to local suppliers and manufacturing facilities for formulations and processes of complementary and side products.
• Audits supplier capability and capacity based on product quality and food safety requirements.
• Develops raw material specifications, product standards, and process parameters.
• Gathers data and recommends process improvements to maximize supplier capability.
• Establishes finished goods monitoring and inspection procedures.
• Documents and updates validated manufacturing processes and standards, including revisions to product requirements and bill of materials, when necessary.
• Supports regulatory product registration by providing required technical documentation.

Raw Material and Process Improvement for Cost Efficiency

• Conducts testing to improve raw materials and/or processes to achieve cost efficiency.
• Performs commercial translation and coordinates product stability testing activities.
• Coordinates with suppliers in establishing product specifications.
• Works with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure the availability of materials for testing.
• Collaborates with manufacturing and finance teams in creating and updating documentation to ensure accurate cost savings reporting.

Qualification of Store and Manufacturing Equipment

• Performs testing of new equipment used for product preparation and manufacturing.
• Determines and establishes optimal equipment settings to achieve standard product quality.
• Evaluates product performance, stability, and consistency when using new equipment.
• Recommends equipment setting and/or design improvements to achieve desired product quality.
• Monitors the performance of new equipment during pilot testing.

Other Responsibilities

• Acts as a resource person within the area of expertise.
• Actively participates in cross-functional projects, business expansion initiatives, problem-resolution task forces, and other assigned activities.
• Performs other related duties and responsibilities to support organizational objectives and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least one (1) year of experience in food manufacturing.
• Experience in implementing Food Safety and Quality Management Systems such as GMP, HACCP, FSSC, and ISO standards within a food manufacturing environment is an advantage.
• Familiarity with food manufacturing operations, production planning, inventory control, and food safety management systems.
• Familiarity with food service or quick-service restaurant operational processes.
