Job summary

Sezzle is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to own and evolve authentication and authorization across a scalable, global fintech platform. The role focuses on building secure gateway and identity services in Golang, with heavy collaboration across Product, Security, and Engineering teams.

You will drive migrations, define standards, and mentor others while delivering high-performance auth capabilities for an edge gateway in a fully remote setup.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep, hands-on expertise in authentication and authorization systems: OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, and session-based auth.
• Experience designing, building, or operating an API gateway or auth proxy at scale.
• Proven track record leading large-scale service extraction or migration.
• Strong proficiency in Golang and RESTful APIs.
• Expertise with SQL-based RDBMS (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and query optimization.
• Knowledge of distributed patterns and edge-service challenges.
• Demonstrated AI-forward engineering and use of AI tooling.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and roadmap for authentication and authorization platform, including API gateway and identity services.
• Architect, design, and build scalable, highly-available auth services and gateway components in Golang.
• Lead phased, zero-downtime migrations with rollback/safety mechanisms.
• Establish and evolve authentication/authorization standards across the platform (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, RBAC/ABAC).
• Drive consistency across distributed microservices while maintaining edge performance.
• Collaborate with Security and Compliance for fintech-grade security and regulatory needs.
• Define engineering best practices for observability, security, and CI/CD.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident postmortems.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of learning and operational excellence.
• Translate business goals into technical roadmaps and deliver measurable results.
