Job summary

BairesDev is seeking an experienced COBOL Programmer to maintain and modernize critical IBM mainframe applications in a fully remote role. You will bridge legacy systems with modern business needs, supporting banking and government-facing environments.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in mainframe development, deep COBOL skills, and hands-on experience with CICS, DB2, JCL, and VSAM, plus strong English communication for collaboration across our global teams.

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Mainframe Development, or Systems Programming.
Proven expertise in maintaining and modernizing COBOL applications on IBM mainframes.
Proficiency in mainframe technologies including CICS, DB2, JCL, and VSAM.
Hands-on experience with both batch and online transaction processing systems.
Strong analytical skills for debugging and optimizing legacy codebases.
Advanced proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance COBOL applications for batch and online processing.
Manage and optimize mainframe components including CICS, DB2, JCL, and VSAM.
Analyze complex legacy codebases to identify and implement modernization and optimization opportunities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and updates.
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot defects to ensure the reliability of mission-critical systems.
Document system changes and workflows to preserve institutional knowledge and support long-term maintainability.
