Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an R&D Engineer (Electrical) for the Wet Capacitors line within the High Voltage Products unit in Bengaluru, India. The role focuses on design and development of capacitor products with emphasis on reliability and advanced testing.

You will work in a dynamic global environment and collaborate across diverse teams. Ideal candidates hold a degree in Electrical engineering with 4–5 years HV capacitor design experience, fluent English, and strong project management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; Master’s preferred.
  • 4–5 years of experience in high‑voltage capacitor design and development.
  • Experience with HV capacitor products and related industry standards (IEC/IEEE).
  • Fluent in English, strong communication in a global team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare/review design data in 3D CAD and PLM tools (Creo 4.0, Windchill, SAP).
  • Perform/oversee electrical simulations and qualification tests on capacitors.
  • Create documentation: development reports, analysis reports, BOMs, DFMEA/DFM/ DFA, test instructions.
  • Drive product change management and lead project activities.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure timely, high‑quality results.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues and implement fixes.
  • Support product harmonization, upgrades, and maintenance for reliability and cost efficiency.

  • You will assume an engineering role in the design & development of capacitor products. You shall be able to demonstrate a strong background in know-how in wet capacitors technology with excellent analytical and project management skills and hands‑on experience with state‑of‑the‑art design, development & reliability techniques.
  • On the personal side, we are looking for someone with a technical background and knowledge of Power Quality products (Capacitor), someone that can lead with a positive mindset, analytical capabilities, and a strong drive for collaboration with teams and stakeholders to build the best possible product.
  • The engineer should possess a robust foundation in reliability and life testing of insulations and dielectrics, including a thorough understanding of various ageing models and accelerated ageing methodologies. Proficiency in identifying failure modes and differentiating among probability distribution functions is essential. Leveraging this expertise, the engineer is expected to select and apply the most appropriate techniques for estimating the lifespan of specific dielectric materials.
  • Within the engineering scope, the role involves characterizing the performance of dielectrics under diverse stress conditions, utilizing multiple parameters to assess behavior. This includes evaluating the effects of moisture and impurities on dielectric properties.
  • Additionally, familiarity with sound wave calculations, vibration analysis, and dampers is considered as an asset.

Your Responsibilities
  • Prepare / review design data in 3D model/PLM tools like Creo 4.0, Windchill, and SAP.
  • Analysis through FEA tools - electrical simulation tools. Plan, perform and review calculation/simulations and qualification tests on various types of capacitors.
  • Prepare / review design data in drawing, BOM, GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, including DFMEA/DFM/DFA, perform prototyping & testing of capacitors. Prepare design documentation (Development report, analysis report, assembly & test instruction, test specification, etc.).
  • Driving products change management process.
  • Lead project activities with a proven track‑record of Project management.
  • Participate constructively in working teams, share own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and supports colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high-quality results.
  • Conduct quality case root cause analysis with solid engineering knowledge.
  • Product harmonization, upgrades, and maintenance of capacitor products and solutions with high reliability and cost efficiency.

Your Background
  • Degree in Electrical engineering, preferably post‑graduate / master’s degree.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in high voltage capacitor design and development.
  • Product knowledge of HV equipment / capacitors.
  • Background and experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to work in a global environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various IEC / IEEE / ANSI / IS / ISO / DIN / IP / NEMA standards are preferred.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), strong communication skills in a diverse and global organization.
  • Innovative & creative thinking ability, problem solving ability.
