Quantity Surveyor (QS) – Job Description
Position Summary
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing project costs and ensuring that construction projects are completed within budget. The role involves cost estimation, quantity takeoff, contract administration, and financial monitoring throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Phase
- Review plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
- Prepare cost estimates and budget proposals.
- Assist in tender preparation and bid evaluation.
- Analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Identify potential cost risks and value engineering opportunities.
Construction Phase
- Monitor project costs and budget performance.
- Prepare progress billings and payment certifications.
- Evaluate variation orders and change requests.
- Coordinate with project engineers, architects, and contractors.
- Track material quantities and cost control.
- Prepare cost reports and financial forecasts.
Post-Construction Phase
- Prepare final accounts and project cost analysis.
- Review subcontractor final billing and settlement.
- Maintain cost records and project documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Preferably with experience in construction cost estimating and quantity surveying.
- Knowledgeable in construction drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in MS Excel and quantity takeoff software (e.g., PlanSwift, CostX, Bluebeam).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
