Job summary

Bombardier is seeking a seasoned Materials and Processes professional for its Aerospace Mexico site. You will guide engineering teams on the applications, properties and processing of aircraft materials and hardware, review drawings and certification plans, and participate in R&D to reduce environmental footprint.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor or Master in Materials/Mechanical/Chemical engineering, at least six years in aerospace or military production, and strong English; knowledge of

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master in Materials, Mechanical or Chemical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Six+ years of experience in an aerospace/military production environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of aerospace materials and standard hardware/processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering guidance to designers, structural engineers and other staff on materials and processing for aircraft.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, change documentation, and certification plans.
  • Execute evaluation of metallic materials, their processes and limitations.
  • Prepare test plans, analyze results and write certification reports.
  • Participate in design reviews with Product Development Teams.
  • Review production process documents and approve standard engineering practices.
  • Contribute to R&D projects to improve environmental footprint of Bombardier Aviation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency.

In your roll, you will:
  • Provide technical engineering guidance as necessary to designers, structural engineers, technical writers, liaison engineers, customer support, Quality, buyers and laboratory staff on the applications, properties and processing of aircraft materials and hardware.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, change documentation, certification plans and release documentation pursuant to technical engineering modifications/specifications for materials in general.
  • Execute various engineering tasks like the evaluation of different metallic materials, their processes and limitations.
  • Prepare various test plans, analyze results and write certification reports.
  • Take part in design reviews with internal Product Development Teams and others, when requested.
  • Review production process documents prepared by other functions and recommended for approval.
  • Prepare, administer and approve standard technical engineering practices, procedures, design guidelines and corporate/site specific standards contained in Bombardier Manuals
  • Participate to various R&D projects in order to improve environmental footprint of Bombardier Aviation.
  • Support on-going continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through relevant engineering, process, and other capability improvements.
  • Provide technical direction to junior and intermediate members of the team to accomplish day to day tasks.
  • Keep abreast with current materials and hardware technology and development, suitable for use in company products, through contacts with various external agencies.
As our ideal candidate:
  • You have a Bachelor or Masters degree in Materials, Mechanical or Chemical engineering from an accredited university
  • You have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in an aerospace/military production environment.
  • You have a thorough knowledge of aerospace materials with experience in standard hardware and processes used for the manufacture of aircraft.
  • You are knowledgeable about metallic materials used in the aerospace industry like aluminum, steel and titanium including knowledge of their corrosion behaviors.
  • You are knowledgeable about different manufacturing processes like Heat Treatment, Shot Peening and Surface Treatment of aluminum.
  • You are familiar with aerospace and military specifications like SAE, AMS, MIL, etc.
  • You are proficient in engineering design principles and reviewing drawings.
  • You are adept at solving engineering problems in a high-pressure environment and can deal with complex issues quickly and independently.
  • You have pro-active mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • You must be able to work in a team environment and collaborate with Technical Experts, Professionals and Technicians on a daily basis.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English. French will be considered an asset.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and a high sense of commitment.
  • You are familiar with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • You are familiar with Catia V5.
  • You know the environmental norms (REACH).
