Verkada is seeking a Product Design Mechanical Engineer Intern to contribute to the design and development of cameras, access control systems, and enterprise IoT products. You will own mechanical design from prototype to mass production. This is a full-time internship, in-person in San Mateo, CA.

You will join a small, fast-paced team making key design decisions, prototyping and validating components, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ship manufacturable hardware.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Mechanical Engineering with 2027 or 2028 graduation.
• Available for Winter Co-Op starting January 4, for 4–12 months preferred.
• Strong understanding of strength of materials, thermodynamics, and manufacturing.
• Experience with 3D CAD software.

About the Role

As a Product Design Mechanical Engineer Intern at Verkada, you’ll contribute to the design and development of new cameras, access control systems, sensors, and other enterprise IoT products. Verkada’s PD engineers own all aspects of the mechanical design from prototype to mass production. You will make a big impact – your designs will be a part of Verkada's future products.

This is a full-time internship, in-person role based in our San Mateo, CA office.

What You'll Do

• Take ownership of products from concept to mass production.
• Join a small, fast-paced team where you will make key design decisions and make a major impact on our future products.
• Prototype and analyze mechanical systems for solutions to product requirements that are relevant to enterprise hardware (e.g., mounting, sealing, environmental resistance, thermal performance, tamper resistance, etc.).
• Learn what it takes to ship products and collaborate with a cross-functional team (i.e., Electrical Engineers and Industrial Designers).
• Design parts for mass-manufacturing, including dialing in DFM/DFA, leading validation testing, steering overseas vendor collaboration, and learning about tooling bring-up & part inspection.

What You Bring

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields with a graduation year of 2027 or 2028.
• Available for a Winter Co-Op, starting around January 4th, preferably for an extended term (4-12 months).
• Strong understanding & intuition of strength of materials, thermodynamics, and manufacturing.
• Experience with 3D CAD software.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, building, and testing hardware.

Pay Disclosure

At Verkada, we want to attract and retain the best employees, and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate’s skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. This estimate can vary based on the factors described above, so the actual starting base pay may be above or below this range. Base pay is also just one component of Verkada’s total rewards package. A Verkada employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Estimated Hourly Pay Range

$45 — $45 USD
