Position Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to join our Platform Development team. You will design, build, and run the internal platform that our product engineering teams depend on: secure, self-service Azure infrastructure delivered through GitOps and infrastructure as code, engineered for a 99.99% uptime target.
This is a hands-on engineering role with 4-6 years of experience expected. You will treat the platform as a product, owning its stability, performance, and running cost. Expect to spend your time automating away toil, shortening the path from commit to production, and making the platform both cheaper and more reliable quarter over quarter.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate our internal developer platform as a product, with paved paths, golden templates, and self-service capabilities for product teams
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable Azure infrastructure using Terraform
- Own platform stability and availability against a 99.99% uptime target, including SLOs, error budgets, and capacity planning
- Design for resilience: high availability, multi-zone deployments, graceful degradation, backup and disaster recovery, and regular failure testing
- Drive cloud cost optimisation through rightsizing, autoscaling, reserved capacity, spot workloads, and removal of idle resources
- Build cost visibility and accountability, tagging and attributing spend so teams can see and manage the cost of what they run
- Run GitOps-based delivery on Kubernetes with FluxCD, keeping cluster state declarative, reviewable, and reproducible
- Build and evolve Azure DevOps pipelines for reliable, low-friction deployments, including one-click releases, safe rollbacks, and parameterised builds
- Package and standardise workloads with Docker and Kubernetes across environments
- Improve observability across the platform with metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerting so teams can see, measure, and debug their own services
- Reduce operational noise: tune alerts, remove recurring failure modes, and run blameless post-incident reviews that lead to permanent fixes
- Embed non-functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability, and cost into platform design by default rather than as an afterthought
- Partner with product engineering teams to fold platform and operational concerns into design, build, and release
- Provide Level 2/3 support for platform components, finding root causes and shipping permanent fixes
- Continuously reduce manual work, cycle time, and operational overhead across the engineering organisation
