A plant operator in a cold storage facility is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of refrigeration and related mechanical systems that maintain proper temperature and conditions for stored goods. They ensure that the facility runs efficiently, energy use is optimized, and products remain preserved according to standards.

Key Responsibilities / Job Description

Operation of Plant and Equipment

• Operate and monitor refrigeration systems, compressors, chillers, and other mechanical equipment.
• Ensure all plant equipment runs efficiently and maintains the required temperature for cold storage areas.
• Adjust controls and settings according to storage requirements or operational guidelines.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify wear, leaks, or malfunctions.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Report major equipment failures to supervisors and coordinate repairs.

Monitoring and Recording

• Keep accurate logs of system operations, temperature readings, and energy consumption.
• Monitor alarms and troubleshoot issues to prevent product spoilage or plant downtime.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards during operations.

Safety and Compliance
