Job summary

SMEC (An SJ Group Company) is seeking an experienced Scheduling Engineer to manage project schedules for tender, consultancy, and construction phases using Primavera P6 and MS Project. You will coordinate with design, construction, and contract administration teams, prepare progress reports, support delay analysis and EOT claims, and ensure schedules comply with contractual requirements.

Strong analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 4-7 years in planning, scheduling, or project controls.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 and MS Project; AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC or standard contracts is desirable.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with delay analysis and EOT claims is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and update project schedules for tender, consultancy, and construction stages using Primavera P6 and MS Project, including developing multiple 'what-if' scenarios to assess potential changes and their impacts.
  • Ensure project schedules and updates meet contractual and procedural requirements.
  • Coordinate with design, construction, and contract administration teams to align schedules with project objectives.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain progress and productivity reports.
  • Assist in calculating material volumes and analysing productivity.
  • Maintain organised schedule-related records to ensure defensibility in case of claims or disputes.
  • Track schedule risks and provide early warnings to project teams.
  • Identify weak or incomplete project records and coordinate with the team to close gaps.
  • Draft response letters on programme-related issues in consultation with senior staff.
  • Assist in claims analysis, including the review of contractor submissions.
  • Perform initial ('first-pass') delay analysis for EOT claims to identify potential entitlement and determine if detailed forensic analysis is required.
  • Assist in preparation of EOT reports, including collation of records and analysis results.

  • Timely preparation and updating of project schedules in accordance with project requirements.
  • Accuracy and quality of progress and productivity reporting and schedule-related records.
  • Timely identification and communication of schedule risks and potential delays.
  • Quality and timeliness of programme-related reviews, correspondence, and claims support.
  • Effectiveness in coordinating planning activities with design, construction, and contract administration teams.
Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • 4-7 years of relevant experience in planning, scheduling, or project controls, preferably in marine, coastal, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project; knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of contractual claims processes and delay analysis techniques.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Good written communication skills for drafting contractual correspondence and progress reports.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Exposure to FIDIC or other standard forms of contract is desirable.
  • Experience in delay analysis or involvement in EOT claim assessments is desirable.
  • Familiarity with volume-based productivity tracking is desirable.
  • Familiarity with coastal and reclamation works is desirable.
