About the Client
The company is an Australian engineering consultancy providing engineering, design, project management and specialist technical services to clients in the mining, minerals processing, ports, power generation and heavy industrial sectors. The role will support Australian-based project teams delivering engineering solutions across a diverse range of brownfield projects.
Purpose of the Role
We require an experienced Piping Engineer to provide engineering design, analysis and documentation support to Australian lead engineers.
The role is focused on technical delivery rather than project management. Australian engineers will retain responsibility for client management, project management and engineering sign-off.
Typical Work
The piping engineer will support projects involving piping, pressure vessels and tanks including:
- Brownfield plant modifications and upgrades.
- Design and engineering of new systems
- Serviceability and maintenance of ageing systems
- Engineering analysis of repairs
- Preparation of engineering reports, specifications and scopes of work.
- Reviewing and checking engineering drawings and models.
- Collaboration with Australian engineers, designers and project managers.
Most work will be associated with mining, minerals processing and heavy industrial facilities.
Requirements
What You Bring:
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Has experience as a consulting engineer working on multiple jobs each with a specific budget and schedule.
- Has experience with projects in mining, minerals processing, power generation or heavy industrial environments.
- Has demonstrated experience applying ASME and API standards.
- Can prepare detailed piping layouts, equipment plot plans, and 3D models using specialized computer-aided design tools.
- Can perform piping and tank stress analysis and flexibility evaluations to verify structural integrity under operating temperatures and pressures.
- Experience with piping, pressure vessel, and tank calculations and strong knowledge of the relevant engineering principles.
- Can select and document appropriate piping materials, valves, supports, and inline components based on process fluid characteristics and operating conditions.
- Can review and verify isometric drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and civil-structural interface documents.
- Can communicate design requirements with cross-functional discipline teams.
- Can prepare clear technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Understand engineering risk assessment and safe design principles.
Desirable Experience (Optional)
- Experience working on Australian mining and industrial projects.
- Familiarity with AS 1210, AS 4041, AS 3788 and AS/NZS 1200

- AutoCAD Plant 3D or Solidworks
- Piping stress analysis software Caesar II, or AutoPIPE
- Pressure vessel analysis software Compress
- Navisworks (or similar)
- Sharepoint
The ability to work efficiently within a 3D model-based design environment is important.
Attributes
- Excellent analytical problem-solving skills with high attention to detail in engineering calculations and drawing reviews.
- Professional level communication in English, written and verbal.
- Comfortable asking questions to confirm understanding.
- Confident enough to push-back if they can see a problem with instructions given.
- Care enough about their workplace to make suggestions if they can see a better way to do things.
What Success Looks Like

- Be producing engineering calculations, reports and technical documentation that require minimal rework prior to review. (KPI: 95% acceptance rate).
- Be a productive contributor within FIELD's engineering, quality and document control processes.
- Produce piping and mechanical engineering deliverables within agreed timeframes. (KPI: 90% on time delivery)
- Demonstrate sound engineering judgement when assessing technical risks and design issues.
- Work effectively with Australian engineers and designers in a remote team environment. (KPI: 8/10 Manager satisfaction score)
