About Us:
Our proprietary IoT & SCADA platform is used by enterprise clients to monitor industrial sensors of all types and run factory operations end-to-end. The platform runs on-prem and on Microsoft Azure with Azure IoT Hub as the core ingestion layer. We process high-volume time-series data from PLCs, gateways, and 1000s of sensors.
Purpose of the Role:
We need someone who can design and own the performance testing strategy for the entire platform. You'll configure test environments, implement load/stress/soak tests, and report results to both engineering and client stakeholders to ensure the platform meets scale, latency, and reliability requirements.
What You'll Do:
- Design performance strategy: Define approach, test scope, SLAs, KPIs, and test models for IoT ingestion, SCADA polling, real-time dashboards, alerting, and reporting.
- Configure test environments: Stand up perf test beds that mirror on-prem and Azure production. Provision VMs, containers, Azure resources, and simulate device traffic.
- Implement tests: Build scripts and scenarios using JMeter, Locust, k6, or similar. Simulate 10k+ device connections, MQTT/OPC UA traffic, high-frequency sensor data, and SCADA HMI load.
- Integrate with CI/CD: Embed perf tests into Azure DevOps pipelines. Run automated regression perf tests on each release.
- Monitor & analyze: Use Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, and Grafana to track CPU, memory, IoT Hub throttling, DB latency, and end-to-end latency.
- Report & drive improvements: Create clear reports with bottlenecks, capacity recommendations, and pass/fail against SLAs. Work with engineering to tune platform, DB, and cloud config.
- Support UAT and go-lives: Run perf validation before major releases and client deployments. Support hypercare.
- Best practices: Define performance testing standards, templates, and tooling for the team.
Must-haves:
- 5+ years in performance testing. Proven experience designing strategy, not just executing scripts.
- Hands-on with JMeter, k6, Locust, or Gatling. Can write and maintain test scripts.
- Experience testing cloud-native and hybrid systems, ideally Azure, Azure IoT Hub, and time-series databases.
- Understanding of IoT and SCADA systems: device telemetry, MQTT, OPC UA, high-cardinality time-series data, and real-time requirements.
- Strong data analysis skills. Can interpret logs, metrics, and traces to find root causes.
- Excellent reporting skills. Can present technical findings to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with Azure IoT Hub, Azure Data Explorer or similar.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform for test environment setup.
- Familiarity with OT networks, PLCs, and industrial protocols.
- Certifications: ISTQB Performance Testing, Azure Administrator/Architect.
