Job summary

Copeland, a global climate technologies company, is seeking a Patent Research & Technical Writing professional in Quezon City, Philippines. This full-time role operates on a hybrid schedule, with on-site work three days a week, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, supporting patentability analyses, landscape studies, and technical documentation for IP filings.

You will collaborate with Legal and R&D teams to identify patentable innovations, conduct prior art searches, and prepare clear summaries and reports

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience in technical documentation or publication writing is an advantage.
• 3–5 years in R&D, quality control, product design engineering, or process engineering.
• Strong analytical and written/verbal communication skills.
• Willing to work in a hybrid setup (on-site thrice per week).
• Filipino citizens preferred; must be available for full-time employment.
• Work Shift: 9:00AM–6:00PM, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patentability and invalidity assessments via comprehensive prior art searches.
• Develop and refine search strategies and keywords aligned with priorities.
• Monitor newly published/granted patents relevant to business interests.
• Prepare concise patent summaries, abstracts, and reports for stakeholders.
• Perform IP analysis within HVAC-related consumer products industries.
• Support engineering/R&D teams in drafting invention disclosures for filings.
• Conduct patent landscape analysis and competitive intelligence.
• Carry out FTO and patent watch activities to mitigate risks.
• Analyze global patent filing trends to anticipate competitor activity.
• Maintain organized IP documentation and ensure accuracy of reports.

Requirements:

• Must possess at least a Bachelor’s/College Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Environmental/Health/Safety) or a related field.

• Preferably with experience or knowledge in technical writing and patent searching.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in any of the following areas: research and development (R&D), quality control, product development, design engineering, or process engineering.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in technical documentation or publication writing is an advantage.

• Develop and refine search strategies, keywords, and classification queries aligned with evolving business and technical priorities.

• Monitor and track newly published and granted patents, identifying those relevant to business interests and potential risks or opportunities.

• Prepare clear and concise patent summaries, abstracts, and reports, and effectively communicate findings to stakeholders (e.g., Legal, R&D, and business teams).

• Perform in-depth patent and intellectual property analysis within the HVAC related industry consumer products and related industries.

• Support engineering and R&D teams in identifying patentable innovations, drafting invention disclosures, and preparing technical documentation for patent filings.

• Conduct patent landscape analysis, technology mapping, and competitive intelligence to guide strategic decision‑making.

• Carry out freedom‑to‑operate (FTO) and patent watch activities to help mitigate infringement risks and ensure IP compliance.

• Analyze global patent filing trends to anticipate competitor activity and emerging market directions.

• Maintain organized documentation and ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality of IP‑related reports and records.
