Job summary

Region 12 is seeking a Paraeducator to assist certified staff in achieving goals within the transition program for 18-22 year olds. Daily sessions run from 9:15 am to 2:00 pm at Shepaug Valley Partnership, supporting students and staff in structured instructional activities.

The role emphasizes teamwork with the Special Education Teacher, Pupil Personnel Director, and Superintendent of Schools, with emphasis on basic reading, language, math, and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Two years of study at higher education or an Associate's Degree or eligibility by ParaPro score.
• Reading, oral and written language, and math skills.
• Computer proficiency and ability to use office machines and other technology.
• Effective interpersonal skills to work well with students and adults.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
• Prior experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

• To assist the certified staff in achieving the goals and objectives of the specialized instructional program for students in our transition program.
• Support students in daily activities and transitions within the program.
• Reports to the Special Education Teacher, Pupil Personnel Director, Superintendent of Schools.

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist the certified staff in achieving the goals and objectives of the specialized instructional program for students in our transition program. All paraprofessionals have both common and specific job functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of 2 years of study at an institution of higher education, OR earned an Associate's Degree (or higher), OR achieve at least a score of 457 on the ETS ParaPro Assessment (https://www.ets.org/parapro)
• Demonstrated competence in basic skills of reading, oral and written language, and math.
• Proficiency in the use of a computer and the ability to work with office machines and other technology.
• Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with students and adults.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.

Prior experience working with children is preferred
