Responsibilities

• Observes and enforces strict sterile and safe operating room to staff and patient
• Ensures that correct patient is in the OR and for the right procedure
• Ensures completeness of supplies, linens, instrumentations, and equipment for operative care
• Secures consent and necessary preoperative documents
• Obtains patient vital signs including drug/anesthesia
• Counts instruments, sponges, and other related items prior to a surgery
• Executes proper use, care, and handling of surgical equipment
• Responds to life-saving situations
• Records all care information accurately and in a timely manner
• Maintains order and sterility of the OR
• Ensures proper disposal of sharp objects, needles, and infectious wastes
• Initiates post-operative home care and instructions
• Adheres to regulatory requirements mandated by the Department of Health
• Provides required reports as requested
• Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time
