Job summary

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is seeking a dedicated professional to join our site services. You will report to the Site Services Supervisor and work with a large network of experts to support customized lab work and research protocols.

This role offers hourly pay of $27 to $28.50, with Monday–Friday schedule and cross-training across nearby sites. You will participate in inventory management, safety audits, and hands-on lab support.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in customer service, inventory replenishment, or material handling.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Willing to travel to customer sites for cross training.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
• Knowledge of SAP, Oracle, and Power BI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct weekly lab safety audits and document findings.
• Manage consumable stocking locations for consistency.
• Oversee daily inventory of lab consumables.
• Use barcode systems to track product orders.
• Receive and organize incoming supplies.
• Place procurement orders via Avantor platforms.
• Monitor inventory metrics like turns and costs.
• Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records in logs.
• Execute client SOPs for cleaning protocols.
• Ensure critical parts are available to prevent downtime.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will report to the Site Services Supervisor and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team of over 1,500 on- and off-site expert personnel – and our customers – to perform customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Hourly Rate

$27 - $28.50

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7 am - 3:30 pm or 4 pm

Location

San Carlos, CA (Cross-training: the cities are tentatively set at South San Francisco, Alameda, and possibly Palo Alto)

What we’re looking for

Education

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience

2+ years’ customer service, inventory replenishment, or material handling experience is required.

Collaboration Tool

Microsoft Office suite.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license needed to fulfill the duties of the role
• Reliable form of transportation
• Will be traveling to customer sites for cross training
• Conform to all company and customer requirements for background checks, health, and safety issues required.
• Strong communication skills required.
• A high level of customer service skills, with the ability to display a professional can-do attitude, is required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs required.
• 1–2 years of experience in a laboratory environment or familiarity with lab processes and procedures preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using computers
• Knowledge of SAP, Oracle, Power BI, and other inventory management systems preferred
• Previous experience in a GMP-regulated facility strongly desired
• Strong communication skills

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In This Role You Will

• Conduct weekly laboratory safety audits and document findings.
• Establish and manage consumable stocking locations to ensure consistent availability.
• Oversee daily inventory of lab consumables; restock and organize as necessary.
• Utilize barcode scanning systems to place and track product orders.
• Receive, unpack, and organize incoming supplies; dispose of packaging materials appropriately.
• Place procurement orders on behalf of customers using Avantor and customer platforms.
• Monitor and manage inventory metrics, including inventory turns, overhead, and customer expenditures.
• Perform scheduled deep cleaning and de-trashing of laboratory spaces.
• Clean around equipment and monitor/remove biohazard waste in compliance with safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of daily, weekly, and monthly verifications in both physical and digital logbooks.
• Execute multiple cleaning protocols as outlined in client-specific SOPs, varying in complexity.
• Ensure the availability of critical parts to avoid any disruptions in laboratory or manufacturing operations.
• Chemically inactivate equipment containing residual product prior to maintenance or disposal.
• Operate specialized cleaning equipment as required for sanitization tasks.
• Remove waste containers from their holding location to their specified pick up location
