Core Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in monitoring and managing bilge water levels and operating oily water separators (OWS) under senior supervision.

Transfer and replenish lubricating oils and mechanical fluids to required operating levels.

Lubricate bearings, gears, shafts, pumps, and other moving mechanical parts using specified greases and oils.

Lubrication & Fluid Management:

Alert the Officer of the Watch (OOW) immediately of any abnormal sounds, oil or water leaks, unusual vibrations, or high temperature readings.

Check pressure, temperature, fluid level, and flow indicators; log mechanical readings in the engine watchkeeping record.

Perform routine engine room rounds to inspect operating machinery, including main propulsion engines, auxiliary diesel generators, boilers, air compressors, and purifiers.
