Job summary

Caribou Thunder is seeking a Network Engineer – Level 3 to join our senior team onsite at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM. You will design, monitor, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure supporting space mission communications and mission-critical operations.

You will work with Cisco routers/switches, Palo Alto firewalls, VMware, and Linux/UNIX systems, applying monitoring tools to identify issues and drive security improvements while collaborating with cybersecurity teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience.
  • Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Active Top Secret clearance or DOE Q with SCI eligibility.
  • DoD 8570 baseline certification required.
  • Experience with Cisco routers/switches and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Experience with VMware virtualization and Linux/UNIX systems.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, iPerf).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure for satellites and ground systems.
  • Analyze traffic patterns, speeds, packet flow, and connectivity performance.
  • Configure, deploy, upgrade, and administer multivendor network equipment.
  • Install, modify, and support routers, switches, firewalls, and related components.
  • Support Cisco routing/switching environments and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Administer and troubleshoot ISE environments and network access controls.
  • Operate Linux and UNIX systems in enterprise and mission contexts.
  • Use monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve network issues.
  • Support private cloud and VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure.
  • Develop network topology diagrams and IP address management records.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and improve security.
  • Provide after-hours support as needed and work across multidisciplinary teams.

Network Engineer – Level 3
Senior Level | Active Top Secret Clearance Required | $80,000 - $110,000 | Onsite: Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM

Support mission-critical space operations—designing, monitoring, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure that enables secure communication between satellites and ground systems supporting Space Systems Command missions.

A Day in the Life - What you’ll do
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure supporting satellite and ground system communications.
  • Analyze network characteristics including traffic patterns, transmission speeds, packet flow, throughput, and connectivity performance.
  • Configure, deploy, upgrade, and administer multivendor network equipment in operational and lab environments.
  • Install, modify, and support routers, switches, firewalls, and related network components.
  • Support Cisco routing and switching environments, Palo Alto firewalls, and network authentication solutions.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Identity Services Engine (ISE) environments and network access controls.
  • Operate and support Linux and UNIX systems within enterprise and mission environments.
  • Leverage enterprise monitoring and analysis tools to proactively identify and resolve network issues.
  • Support private cloud and virtualized environments including VMware Cloud Foundation and associated infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain network topology diagrams, architecture documentation, and IP address management records.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and implement security improvements.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support for operational and mission-critical network issues.
  • Work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Mathematics with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Active Top Secret security clearance or DOE Q clearance with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI access
  • Current DoD 8570 baseline certification required
  • Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure in operational environments
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches
  • Experience supporting Palo Alto firewalls and enterprise security architectures
  • Knowledge of VMware virtualized environments and private cloud technologies
  • Experience operating Linux and UNIX systems
  • Experience using network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, iPerf, or similar platforms
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Microsoft Visio
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within team environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure projects and technical initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of engineering lifecycle processes, data management, and configuration control practices
  • Experience developing and maintaining network architecture diagrams and technical documentation
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated leadership and collaboration experience
  • Experience supporting government sponsors, mission stakeholders, and contract representatives
  • Ability to provide executive-level summaries and translate technical findings into actionable recommendations
  • Experience supporting Space Systems Command or space mission environments
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity remediation activities and secure network architectures
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical infrastructure environments
