Job summary

Austal Philippines is seeking a Naval Architect to lead naval architecture and structural calculations for ferry/ship design projects. You will manage work scopes with the team across the structure design package and offer technical support to fabrication and supply chains.

The role requires 5+ years in naval architecture or marine engineering, strong regulatory knowledge, and proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, CFD tools, and stability analysis. Strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (B.Eng.).
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Naval Architect or Structural Engineer with a focus on marine design for new shipbuilding projects.
• Solid technical problem-solving skills and knowledge of classification society and flag state regulations (DNV, BV, IMO HSC Code).
• Effective English communication, written and spoken, for cross-team collaboration.

• Responsible for Naval Architecture, structural calculations, design and reports for deliverables of the assigned ferry/ship design project.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Naval Architect is responsible for the naval architecture & structural calculations and design for the assigned ferry/ship design project.

The role is also responsible for the overall management in delivering work scopes with the team for the relevant structure design package.

Primary Responsibilities

• Responsible for the Naval Architecture & structural calculations, design and reports for deliverable of relevant structure deliverables for the assigned ferry/ship design project
• Provide technical support to the Structural Design Team, fabrication and supply chain
• Supervise structural designer and draftsperson as required

Essential QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (B.Eng).
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Naval Architect or Structural Engineer, with a focus on marine design for new shipbuilding projects. Strong structural design aptitude with proven ability to meet vessel specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Solid technical problem-solving skills and attention to engineering detail. In-depth knowledge of classification society and flag state regulations, particularly DNV, BV, and IMO HSC Code.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to collaborate across design, production, and project teams.
• Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD for drafting and design documentation.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with stability analysis software and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools.

Desirable

• Good team and Leadership skills to lead team members
• Marine Engineering experience onboard ships
• Aluminium or Steel shipbuilding experience
• Licensed Philippine Naval Architect
• Familiarity with 3D SHIP CAD software such as (SHIPCON), Navisworks
• Familiar with MaxSurf, Strand7 and Rhino
