Job summary

Austal is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer in the Philippines to perform mechanical deliverables for shipbuilding projects, ensuring compliance with vessel specifications, flag rules and classification society requirements.

Qualifications

  • B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering (essential).
  • 2+ years as a mechanical engineer in marine design (essential).
  • Strong mechanical design skills to meet vessel specs and rules (essential).
  • Good technical/problem-solving skills (essential).
  • Knowledge of classification society and flag requirements (DNV/BV & IMO HSC Code preferred).
  • Strong 2D AutoCAD capability (essential).
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Good written and spoken English for coordination (essential).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical deliverables (calculations, drawings, requisitions, reports, investigations, trials).
  • Ensure deliverables meet vessel specs, flag and classification rules and fit for purpose.

Job description

About the role

The Junior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for undertaking Mechanical engineering deliverables (calculations, drawings, requisitions, reports, investigations, and trials) for the assigned project/tasks.

The role is to ensure that the mechanical deliverables meet the vessel specification, flag requirement (e.g. IMO High-Speed Craft Code/other), and the Classification Society requirements and are fit for their intended purpose. The deliverable needs to be undertaken as per the project schedule and budget requirements.

This role requires good coordination and communication (written and verbal) with the design team (AP and AA/AV where applicable), production, and other external stakeholders (class/client/Supplier).

Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
Essential
  • B.Eng (Mechanical Engineering)
  • 2+ Years as a Mechanical engineer in marine design experience in new shipbuilding projects.
  • Good Mechanical design skills to meet vessel specifications & rules requirements.
  • Good technical skills and ability to problem-solve
  • Good knowledge of classification society and Flag rule requirement (DNV/BV & IMO HSC Code preferred)
  • Strong Competence in 2D Autocad
  • Competent with MS Office, Word & Excel, Outlook
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with design, production, and project teams in written and spoken English.
Desirable
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Aluminium or Steel shipbuilding experienceLicensed Philippine Mechanical Engineer,
  • Familiarity with 3D SHIP CAD software such as (SHIPCON)
  • Familiar with Pipenet, Spreadsheet, CFD, or other equivalent software
