Job summary

Nelnet Philippines Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer with Java and Python backend focus and AI features to contribute to backend systems and AI-enabled applications.

You will own features, translate requirements into implementations, and collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready software and AI-driven capabilities in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Practical experience as a Software Engineer, Backend Developer, or AI/ML-focused Engineer.
• Working experience with Python for backend or AI-related development.
• Solid experience with Java for backend or enterprise applications.
• Understanding of backend concepts such as service integration, error handling, and security basics.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases; NoSQL exposure is a plus.
• Foundational to practical understanding of AI, machine learning, LLMs, and prompt engineering concepts.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to seek guidance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Python.
• Support the implementation and integration of AI or machine learning features.
• Translate requirements into technical tasks and practical implementation approaches.
• Write clean, well-structured, maintainable, and production-ready code.
• Participate actively in code reviews, testing, debugging, and release preparation.
