Job Overview
We are seeking a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Expert to serve as the technical and functional owner of our BC environment. This is a strategic role that combines hands‑on customization, application lifecycle management, and cross‑functional consulting.
The ideal candidate deeply understands BC’s architecture, thinks like both a developer and a business analyst, and is committed to keeping our system stable, current, and aligned with best practices as our business grows.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Ownership & Customization
- Design, develop, and maintain Business Central customizations using AL (Application Language) within Visual Studio Code.
- Build and manage extensions that extend BC functionality without modifying the base application, ensuring upgrade safety.
- Configure BC modules relevant to our operations, including Inventory, Purchasing, Sales, Warehouse Management, and Finance.
- Translate operational and business requirements from each division (CultureSpace, Juniper, Clear Design) into functional BC solutions.
Update & Extension Lifecycle Management
- Monitor and manage Microsoft’s BC update cycles (major and minor releases), assessing impact on all active extensions and customizations before deployment.
- Maintain a testing and staging pipeline so that updates are validated against custom code before going live, eliminating business disruption from inconsistencies.
- Proactively document all customizations and extension dependencies so that no update cycle creates gaps or regression in functionality.
- Coordinate with Microsoft partners or AppSource vendors when third‑party apps are affected by platform updates.
Integrations & Data Connectivity
- Lead the technical design and implementation of integrations between Business Central and other business systems, including eCommerce platforms, inventory/WMS tools, EDI partners, CRM, and vendor portals.
- Utilize BC’s APIs, web services, and Power Platform connectors (Power Automate, Power BI) to enable data flow between systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration failures promptly to protect the integrity of inventory, order, and financial data across platforms.
- Evaluate and recommend integration architecture approaches (middleware, direct API, Azure Logic Apps, etc.) based on complexity and maintainability.
Inventory & Distribution Support
- Support and enhance BC workflows tied to our large inventory and distribution operation, including item management, bin/location tracking, transfer orders, purchase receipts, and fulfillment.
- Develop custom reports, queries, and dashboards that give operations and leadership visibility into inventory levels, order status, and distribution performance.
- Implement and enforce BC best practices for costing methods, stock movement tracking, and item attribute management specific to the furniture industry.
Project‑Based Operations (Non‑PM Module)
- Recognize that our business operates on a project basis but does not utilize BC’s Project Management module; instead, support the use of Sales Orders, Item Tracking, and custom workflows to manage project‑aligned delivery.
- Develop workarounds, custom fields, and reporting structures that give project visibility within BC without activating unused modules.
- Collaborate with operations staff to continuously refine how BC tracks project‑associated costs, delivery milestones, and customer commitments.
Training, Documentation & Best Practices
- Serve as the internal subject‑matter expert on BC, guiding staff across all divisions on system use and capabilities.
- Develop and maintain user documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials for BC processes.
- Establish and enforce BC governance standards, including naming conventions, permission sets, data entry standards, and change‑management protocols.
- Stay current with Microsoft’s BC roadmap and proactively advise leadership on features that could benefit our operations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience managing BC through major and minor update cycles, including extension compatibility testing.
- Experience building and maintaining integrations with external systems via BC APIs, OData web services, or middleware platforms.
- Solid understanding of database architecture, query optimization, and data flow principles as they apply to BC.
- Ability to read and interpret business requirements and translate them into functional specifications and technical solutions.

- Familiarity with Power BI for BC‑connected reporting and dashboards.
- Experience in the office furniture, commercial interiors, or building products industry.
- Exposure to EDI integrations and vendor compliance workflows.
- Experience with Azure DevOps for BC extension deployment pipelines.
