Job summary

Ceres Community Project, based in Santa Rosa, CA, seeks a Packaging and Bagging Coordinator to oversee meal packaging, bagging, and inventory while supporting kitchen production. You will lead volunteers during shifts, ensure adherence to food safety standards, and help adapt workflows to program needs. This role reports to the Sr.

Manager of Meal Program Operations. Candidates should be prepared to work closely with the Kitchen Manager, Chefs, and Culinary team, ensuring meals are portioned,

Qualifications

• Strong organizational skills; ability to manage timelines and projects.
• Experience in food handling, meal production, or packaging preferred.
• Experience working with volunteers strongly preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow packaging instructions.
• Understanding of food safety, portioning, and inventory management in kitchen/food production.
• Ability to lead, train, and engage volunteers in a fast-paced environment.
• Bilingual/Bicultural; Spanish preferred.
• Active food handler’s certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Proficiency with basic computer functions and new platforms.

Responsibilities

• Follows all food safety and sanitation protocols and keeps food within temperature/time guidelines.
• Identifies problems and improvement opportunities; collaborates with management to adapt processes.
• Sets up and leads bagging and packaging shifts.
• Ensures shifts are properly set up and volunteers understand the workflow.
• Accounts for special items needing packaging and bagging.
• Instructs and supervises volunteers; provides feedback to stay within guidelines.
• Leads daily plan communication with volunteers and ensures engagement.
• Teaches volunteers new kitchen skills and packaging techniques.
• Maintains respectful, welcoming environment for volunteers; conducts shift circles.
• Coordinates with Lead Chef on production timelines and needs; communicates shortages or excess.
• Keeps packaging area neat and organized; supports dishwashing, cleaning as needed.
• Documents volunteer attendance; upholds Ceres culture and values.
• Performs deep cleaning and organizational tasks as directed by Kitchen Manager.
• May support emergency food provision efforts as needed.
