Job summary

Ingenious Solutions Inc. is seeking an experienced inpatient medical coder to provide coding services for acute care records. You will apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions, reviewing charts to assign diagnoses and procedures with precision.

You will determine principal diagnoses, comorbidities, and procedures, assign POA values, and ensure accurate DRG classification while adhering to official guidelines. Experience with EPIC and other EMR platforms is preferred.

Job description

Provide coding services on inpatient medical records using the latest appropriate International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems. Thoroughly review medical records including charts and procedures and assign diagnostic and procedural codes based on review results.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for abstracting, coding, and sequencing diagnoses, medical/surgical procedures, and treatment modalities according to appropriate classification system [International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM and PCS), American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)] for inpatient encounters, meeting productivity and quality measures daily
• Review appropriate provider documentation to determine principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions, and surgical procedures
• Assign Present on Admission (POA) value for inpatient diagnoses as a supplement for ICD-10 CM coding.
• Assign correct diagnostic related grouping (DRG) and perform coding compliance reviews. Follow official coding guidelines to review and analyze health records.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical or Allied Medical courses or equivalent in relevant clinical work experience.
• Certified Coder under AAPC (CIC) or AHIMA (CCS)
• Experience with EPIC and other EMR and Coding Platforms
• 2-3 years of previous inpatient coding experience for different patient types – multi specialty
