Job summary

EPS CONSULTANT is seeking an experienced Maritime Purchaser to manage purchasing and supply activities for vessels in a multinational environment. You will ensure accurate verification, preparation, processing, and settlement of orders in line with company policies and requirements.

You will work with purchasing, technical, vessel, and accounting teams to procure vessel supplies, technical items, chemicals, provisions, and PPE while maintaining data integrity and timely updates.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years in maritime purchasing or ship management.
  • Experience handling spare parts, technical goods, vessel supplies, chemicals, provisions, or PPE.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier-management skills.
  • Proactive, organized, and able to work with multinational teams and cultures.
  • Familiar with purchasing/inventory management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end purchasing process from sourcing to settlement.
  • Source and purchase technical supplies, spare parts, PPE, and other vessel needs.
  • Verify requests, ensure proper authorization and alignment with requirements.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure specifications compliance.
  • Maintain purchasing records, inventory data, and system information.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Maritime Purchaser to manage purchasing and supply activities for vessels within a multinational maritime environment. The role will be responsible for ensuring that orders are accurately verified, prepared, processed, and settled in accordance with company policies and operational requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with purchasing, technical, vessel, and accounting teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of vessel supplies, technical items, chemicals, provisions, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different countries and cultures. English will be the primary working language.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the end-to-end purchasing process, from sourcing and obtaining quotations through order placement, delivery, and settlement.
  • Source and purchase technical supplies, spare parts, chemicals, provisions, PPE, and other vessel-related requirements.
  • Verify purchase requests and ensure that orders are accurate, properly authorized, and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure that purchased goods and services meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventory data, and system information, ensuring data integrity and timely updates.
  • Manage and monitor vessel inventory and stock levels, particularly provisions and PPE.
  • Maintain full oversight of supplied provisions and onboard PPE requirements.
  • Work closely with Senior Purchasing Officers and Technical Superintendents to understand vessel requirements and prioritize urgent or critical purchases.
  • Provide purchasing-related assistance and guidance to vessel management and onboard teams.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting/Finance team to verify, trace, and approve supplier invoices and resolve discrepancies when necessary.
  • Monitor verification and inspection activities related to purchasing and supply operations, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that purchasing activities comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable maritime requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, vessel personnel, technical teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement of purchasing processes, supplier management, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Perform other ad hoc purchasing and operational duties as required.
  • Take accountability for assigned objectives, purchasing performance, and timely completion of responsibilities.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • At least 5 years of total experience in maritime purchasing, ship management, vessel operations, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience handling spare parts, technical goods, vessel supplies, chemicals, provisions, or PPE is an advantage.
  • Technical or maritime educational background is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing and supplier management processes.
  • Good negotiation and commercial skills, with the ability to obtain competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with purchasing/inventory management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multinational teams and stakeholders from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Responsible, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage urgent vessel requirements.
  • Willingness to provide 24/7 support when required, particularly for urgent vessel-related purchasing matters.
