Private Advertiser in Singapore is seeking a commercially driven candidate for its Management Trainee Program – Business Development & Portfolio Management. From day one you will own an existing portfolio and drive growth initiatives.
You will rotate for 12 months across Property & Casualty, Motor & Engineering, Accident & Health and Specialty Lines to build breadth in technical placement, client management and cross-selling capabilities.
We are a long-established insurance brokerage firm based in Singapore, providing tailored insurance and risk solutions to clients across a broad range of industries.
Our business spans four core insurance verticals:
Property & Casualty
Motor & Engineering
Accident & Health
Specialty Lines
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a commercially driven individual to join us under our Management Trainee Program – Business Development & Portfolio Management.
This is not a purely observational or classroom-based management trainee program. The successful candidate will be given real portfolio and business development responsibilities from the outset, while undergoing a structured 12-month rotation across our four core insurance verticals.
The role has two parallel components:
From the outset, you will assume responsibility for an existing portfolio and selected growth initiatives, giving you practical ownership and measurable business objectives.
Alongside your core responsibilities, you will rotate across our four business verticals — Property & Casualty, Motor & Engineering, Accident & Health and Specialty Lines — to develop broader technical, placement and client-management capabilities.
The objective is to develop a commercially minded insurance professional who can originate opportunities, manage portfolios, work across multiple insurance classes and progressively develop into a well-rounded broker and business developer.
Throughout the 12-month rotation program, you will retain responsibility for three principal areas:
You will assume responsibility for our existing Individual Travel and Personal Accident portfolio.
Your responsibilities will include managing the existing portfolio, supporting renewals and client servicing, monitoring portfolio performance and identifying opportunities to grow the portfolio through existing and new distribution channels.
As your experience develops, you will be encouraged to consider how the portfolio can be further developed in terms of product offering, customer acquisition, distribution, digitalisation and overall commercial performance.
You will be responsible for helping to originate, develop and manage our SME Employee Benefits proposition.
Working with our Employee Benefits team and other experienced colleagues, you will identify prospective SME opportunities, participate in client discussions, develop suitable insurance solutions, coordinate quotations and placements, and progressively take ownership of the resulting portfolio.
The objective is not simply to service incoming enquiries, but to actively contribute towards developing a scalable SME Employee Benefits business.
You will participate in and progressively take ownership of Project Excel, our cross-selling initiative focused on identifying new insurance opportunities within our existing client portfolio.
Working across the firm's four business verticals, you will review existing client relationships, identify potential coverage gaps and additional insurance needs, initiate discussions with the relevant account owners and specialists, and help convert identified opportunities into new business.
This provides direct exposure to business origination while allowing you to develop an understanding of the different insurance needs of our clients.
While retaining the above responsibilities throughout the program, you will rotate across:
Property & Casualty
Develop an understanding of commercial property, liability and related corporate insurance programs, including risk assessment, insurer submissions, quotation analysis, placement and renewal.
Motor & Engineering
Gain exposure to motor fleets, commercial vehicles, engineering risks and the practical management of high-volume and specialised insurance portfolios.
Accident & Health
Develop experience in employee benefits, group insurance programs and SME solutions while working closely with the team supporting your SME EB mandate.
Specialty Lines
Gain exposure to more specialised areas of insurance, which may include Financial Lines, Professional Indemnity, Cyber, Trade Credit, Product Liability and other complex or emerging risks.
The rotations are intended to provide practical exposure rather than passive observation. You will participate in actual client accounts, insurer negotiations, placements, renewals, presentations and business development activities.
By the end of the program, you should have developed a working understanding of the insurance broking lifecycle — from origination and needs identification through placement, negotiation, client servicing, renewal and portfolio management.
You will also be expected to demonstrate progress in:
Business origination and opportunity identification.
Client communication and presentation.
Understanding and comparing insurance coverage.
Working with insurers and negotiating placements.
Managing an existing portfolio.
Cross-selling across multiple insurance classes.
Developing and executing growth initiatives.
Understanding revenue, GWP, retention and portfolio performance.
Working collaboratively with specialists across different business divisions.
We welcome candidates with 1–3 years of working experience, whether within insurance, financial services, business development, account management or another commercially oriented environment. Strong fresh graduates with demonstrated initiative and commercial aptitude may also be considered.
Prior insurance experience is advantageous but not essential.
More importantly, we are looking for someone who is:
Commercially minded and interested in developing business.
Comfortable taking ownership and being accountable for results.
Curious about businesses, industries and how risks can be managed.
Confident communicating with clients and senior colleagues.
Analytical and able to understand technical information.
Proactive rather than dependent on being given instructions.
Organised and capable of managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Willing to learn from experienced colleagues while contributing from the outset.
Collaborative and comfortable working across different teams.
Ambitious to develop into a client-facing insurance professional.
This program is designed differently from a traditional management trainee program.
You will not spend your first year simply observing different departments. You will have an existing portfolio to manage, new business initiatives to develop and measurable commercial responsibilities from the beginning.
At the same time, you will receive exposure across four different insurance disciplines, giving you the opportunity to understand where your strengths lie and develop a broad foundation in insurance broking.
For the right individual, this combination of portfolio ownership, business development, cross-selling and structured technical exposure provides an accelerated pathway towards becoming a well-rounded broker and, over time, taking on broader commercial and leadership responsibilities within the firm.
