Job summary

SGS Philippines is seeking a Licensed Chemist to lead laboratory analyses, quality control, and compliance with safety and quality management systems. You will perform analyses, sampling, reagent preparation, and report generation in a controlled environment.

The position requires a BS in Chemistry or related field with active licensure, and you will mentor lab analysts while ensuring adherence to SOPs, 5S, and incident reporting procedures.

Qualifications

• BS Chemistry or related sciences is required.
• Licensed Chemist with active certification or license.

Responsibilities

• Perform analyses according to the Matrix of Laboratory Tests and report results per QMS.
• Conduct sampling, testing, and analyses following QMS and Safety policies.
• Prepare reagents, test solutions, and standardize volumetric solutions.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment as required.
• Follow SOPs accurately and interpret test results including QC charts.
• Prepare and update analytical reports and sign worksheets.
• Coach junior staff on testing and sample prep.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environment, and energy policies.

Job description

Licensed Chemist responsible for laboratory analyses, quality control, and compliance with safety and quality management systems.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Perform analyses as defined in the Matrix of Laboratory Tests and report results according to Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures.
• Conduct sampling, testing, and analyses in accordance with QMS and Safety policies.
• Prepare reagents, test solutions, and standardize volumetric solutions per standard test methods.
• Participate in proficiency and correlation programs.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Follow standard operating procedures accurately.
• Analyze and interpret laboratory test results, including statistical quality control charts and measurement uncertainty.
• Prepare and update reports related to analyses performed.
• Sign worksheets and job instructions.
• Maintain documentation such as worksheets, log sheets, and sample records with precision.
• Coach lab analysts I, lab technicians, lab aides, and OJTs on test performance and sample preparation.
• Maintain a safe and orderly workplace.
• Prepare purchase requests for laboratory supplies.
• Request cash advances subject to supervisory and managerial approval.
• Ensure compliance with Group and national policies, including QMS maintenance.
• Adhere to SGS Code of Integrity and QHSEE policies, actively participating in safety meetings, training, and emergency readiness.
• Dispose of waste safely and in compliance with environmental management requirements.
• Report incidents, hazards, and near misses per SGS Incident Reporting requirements.
• Use equipment efficiently and report damaged or lost items.
• Maintain workplace tidiness according to the 5S program.
• Identify safety, health, and environmental risks and propose control measures.
• Participate in incident investigations and risk assessments as required.
• Comply fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to health, safety, environment, and energy.

About You

The company is looking for:

• University or College degree in BS Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Agrichemistry, or related sciences.
• Licensed Chemist.
