Job summary

Metrobank in the Philippines seeks a qualified Legal Officer to handle and monitor cases for the Bank through mediation, trial, appeal and related proceedings. You will coordinate with the Litigation Department Head on case progress and obtain legal opinions when needed.

The role requires strong litigation exposure, research, and the ability to coordinate with external counsels and bank units to protect the Bank's interests. The position is based at The Shops BGC, Taguig City, Philippines.

Qualifications

• Licensed lawyer with 2–5 years of litigation exposure.
• Banking litigation experience preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical and research capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Handle and monitor bank-related cases through mediation, trial, and appeals.
• Coordinate with Litigation Department Head on case progress.
• Research and prepare pleadings and coordinate with external counsel.
• Represent the bank before NLRC, BSP, appellate and trial courts.
• Assist bank units, external counsels, clients, courts and agencies on legal matters.
• Provide legal opinions and conduct inquiries to protect bank interests.
• Coordinate with external counsel on case strategy.
• Propose policies for banking documentation and legal handling.
• Prepare case updates for management.
• Supervise Legal Assistant and paralegal staff.
• Perform other related functions as assigned.

Position Title

Legal Officer

Role Exposure

• Handles and monitors cases for or against the Bank through the process of mediation, trial, appeal and other legal proceedings before the Municipal Trial Courts, Metropolitan Trial Courts, Regional Trial Courts, Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court or any other tribunal, court or agency; Coordinates with the Litigation Department Head on the progress of investigation and/or pending cases and recommends proper action. Coordinates with the Litigation Department Head where legal opinion or advise is sought from the department.
• Research, prepare and study and submit pleadings and/or coordinate/collaborate with external counsels on required submissions in cases filed by or on behalf of the Bank or against it before the trial courts, appellate courts, quasi-judicial bodies or tribunals;
• Represent the bank in cases before the NLRC, BSP, Court of Appeals, and regular courts as well as in matters before any administrative or quasi-judicial body in coordination with and under the supervision of the Litigation Department Head and LSD Head;
• Assist the different Bank units/branches, external counsels, clients, courts and other agencies and entities for the purpose of attending to the legal requirements of the Bank in any pending matter or matter that may potentially ripen or involve the Bank in litigation;
• Provide legal assistance/legal opinion and conduct inquiry, investigation and research, if need be, in order to enforce the Bank's rights and protect its interests in any matter which may involve a pending or potential litigation;
• Coordinate/collaborate and provide directions to external counsel on case strategy/handling as may be approved by Litigation Department Head and/or LSD Head;
• Propose policies/guidelines/ best practices for effective and efficient banking documentation and handling of legal concerns, pending and potential litigation cases;
• Prepare case updates and/or reports as may be required by bank units/branches and management;
• Supervise the work of assigned Legal Assistant, Paralegal & Court Liaison Officers or Garnishment Officer/s and staff of the department;
• Perform other related functions that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

• Registered Lawyer
• Strong exposure as a litigation lawyer for at least 2-5 years
• Banking experience is preferred, but not required
