Legal journal abstracts are a key content set heavily used by legal professionals for research and staying current with legal developments. Abstract Writers read, analyse, and distil complex articles to create brief, targeted summaries which allow our customers to quickly identify relevant materials and make informed decisions regarding their research needs. Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently, are necessary to maintain our world-class content.

About the Role
  • Select, abstract, and index material for Westlaw UKI according to defined criteria.
  • Create index entries for legal articles across a range of subject areas including accurate citation of cases, legislation and bibliographic details; correct application of house style; and consistent, accurate use of the UKI Taxonomy.
  • Adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards as required for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct post-publication checks on database records and online services.
  • Achieve the required level of self-management of priorities and workload.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory developments, including familiarity with diverse areas of law and skills training as needed to complete your work.
  • Demonstrate competence on company‑specific systems, including customized editorial systems, necessary to perform your job functions.
About You
  • Have a JD or LLB degree, preferably in UK law.
  • Have excellent English communication and writing skills, able to clearly and concisely interpret key issues across legal, regulatory, financial and academic journals.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and adaptability in utilizing emerging tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity, efficiency, and accuracy on projects and tasks.
  • Are a self‑starter with an aptitude for legal research and analysis.
  • Have a keen eye for detail and established proof‑reading skills, able to focus on detail‑specific tasks, in addition to being able to pivot your attention to address high priority updates with little notice.
  • Are open to accepting and applying ongoing feedback.
  • Are a strong, proactive, and assertive communicator who can speak and write clearly and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside Thomson Reuters, across the globe.
  • Are a great team player who will work successfully in a global and collaborative environment.
