Job summary

EPAM is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to spearhead backend development for our Internal Developer Platform built on Backstage. You will deliver scalable services, optimize developer workflows, and integrate with Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows.

You will lead a team of engineers, own backend architecture for catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs, and drive secure, scalable microservices while promoting engineering best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of backend experience.
• At least 1 year leading and directing development teams.
• Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend expertise.
• Direct Backstage experience: plugins and APIs.
• Experience building scalable APIs and microservices for platforms.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and container-based environments.
• Familiarity with Argo Workflows or similar tools.
• Excellent English communication (B2+)

Responsibilities

• Lead backend development for Internal Developer Platform on Backstage.
• Direct architecture across catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs.
• Integrate tools: Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Argo Workflows.
• Design developer workflows and automated pipelines.
• Implement RBAC and inter-service security measures.
• Coach team and promote engineering best practices.
