Freshworks is seeking a Backend AI Platform Engineer to lead core backend services for its Agentic AI Platform. You will drive reasoning-driven agents, multi-agent orchestration, and outcome-based workflows, collaborating with the AI Architect to deliver scalable solutions.

The role requires 6+ years in backend engineering and 1-2+ years in AI/ML platform development, with strong Java and Python skills. Hybrid onsite 3x/week in San Mateo, CA; base salary ranges $225,000–$278,000 with a target

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience.
• 1-2+ years hands-on AI/ML platform development.
• Strong programming skills in Java and Python.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or LangSmith.
• Deep understanding of event-driven architectures, microservices, and Kubernetes.
• Solid experience with AWS, Terraform, PostgreSQL and vector databases.
• Practical experience with Temporal or Airflow and Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Lead agent runtime orchestration services focusing on reasoning, planning, and tool invocation.
• Own the development of robust APIs and SDKs for internal and external teams.
• Build and optimize stateful dialog management and memory services for multi-turn agents.
• Implement multi-agent communication protocols and shared context systems.
• Lead transition to cloud-native, event-driven backend services using microservices or service mesh architectures.
• Build and manage workflows with Temporal or Airflow.
• Optimize LLM orchestration for performance and cost via caching and batching.
