About the Role
We are looking for an Estimator to prepare accurate, timely and competitive quotations for fire protection service, maintenance repair and minor works, with a particular focus on defects identified during routine inspection, testing and maintenance. The Estimator converts technician-logged defects and inspection findings into priced quotes, progresses those quotes to customer approval, and keeps quote and asset records current. As an estimator you will be reporting to the service manager, and state manager
We have partnered with an Australian fire protection and electrical contractor operating across the Northern Territory, South Australia and far north Western Australia. They service government, health, education, aged care, commercial and remote and resources clients, delivering fire detection and alarm, sprinkler, suppression, hydrant and portable equipment services, alongside inspection, testing, maintenance and defect rectification.
What you'll be working on:
- Review and evaluate technician reports, defect notes, recommendations recorded in Uptick
- Prepare detailed estimates and quotes for fire service, maintenance, repair and minor works, including defects – covering materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs.
- Apply appropriate allowances for site access, travel and remote-area mobilisation – particularly for Northern Territory and remote sites – using pricing data and rate guidance.
- Issue quotes through Uptick for customer review and approval, and follow up outstanding quotes through to a decision.
- Maintain accurate quote, asset and job records in Uptick.
- Liaise by email, telephone and message with Australian clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal service teams.
- Monitor current supplier pricing and support accurate, consistent estimating.
- Participate in regular reviews with the Service Manager (and the Managing Director where required) to confirm that quoting standards and customer expectations are met and that defects are being actioned.
- Prepare and issue quotes for maintenance, minor works and straightforward defects within agreed parameters.
- Prepare quotes for complex or higher-value systems – in particular fire detection and alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and fire pumps – require greater estimating experience and judgement.
What we're looking for:
- 1–3 years of experience with a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Internship or knowledge in cost estimation for fire defects and repairs.
- Strong numerical skills and interest in cost estimation, pricing, and data analysis.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage deadlines.

- Someone who can work independently while collaborating effectively with the team.
Preferred but not required:
- Experience in estimating, quotations, construction, building services, or maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of fire protection systems or related technical services.
- Familiarity with job-management or quoting software such as FireMate or simPRO.
- Knowledge of Australian fire protection standards and compliance requirements.
- Previous experience working with Australian clients.
