Job description

Manulife Investment Management (HK) Limited is seeking an entry-level Paralegal to support its Investment Law Division across Asia and North America. The ideal candidate will possess foundational knowledge of corporate finance, real estate finance, and/or corporate governance. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to legal and regulatory matters involving public and private debt and equity investments, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, third-party initiatives, and strategic projects across a global organization.
Working under the direction of lawyers within the Investment Law Division, the Paralegal provides legal and administrative support through legal research, drafting and summarizing routine legal documents, and assisting with the development, review, and maintenance of legal documentation, templates, and processes. The role also supports project execution and may involve coordinating stakeholder meetings, tracking deliverables, and managing documentation.
In addition, the Paralegal may perform administrative activities such as preparing reports, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, managing correspondence, triaging requests, updating templates and job aids, and supporting reporting and record-management processes.

Position Responsibilities
  • Draft and review routine legal documents such as NDAs, service agreements, articles of incorporation, by-laws, board resolutions, board minutes, financial reports, fund disclosure documents, and regulatory forms, and provide basic analysis and recommendations that can be relied upon by lawyers.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including assisting with the drafting and execution of board resolutions, tracking Annual General Meetings, and managing regulatory filings.
  • Prepare robust first drafts of less routine legal documents that can serve as a strong foundation for further legal review and refinement.
  • Conduct legal research and provide analysis across a range of legal areas, including investments, funds, employment law, intellectual property, contract law, and corporate governance.
  • Provide administrative support to the legal team, including maintaining and organizing legal files and records, preparing legal correspondence and documentation, tracking matter or transaction progress, and supporting the upkeep of legal processes and applications such as Legal Tracker and Legal Inventory.
  • Develop subject matter knowledge and identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance operational efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage legal transactions, projects, and initiatives by tracking deadlines, monitoring outstanding actions, and coordinating follow-ups.
  • Support investment-related legal and corporate governance activities, including deal documentation, fund subscriptions, entity management, and intragroup agreements.
  • Maintain organized and compliant records, ensuring effective knowledge management and protection of confidential information.
  • Prioritize and deliver high-quality work while continuously developing legal, technical, and professional expertise.
Key Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or completion of at least the second year of a JD program.
  • Preferably 2+ years of experience in a corporate law firm, in-house legal department, or a financial/investment services environment.
  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and sound judgment skills, with the ability to assess complex information and provide practical recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey information and present ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience conducting legal and internet-based research; familiarity with Lexis or similar legal research platforms is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of corporate governance, contract review, legal documentation, and general legal principles and practices.
