Job summary

Coronis Health is hiring a Medical Coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient, and physician coding. You will ensure accurate coding for CMS and client guidelines, while maintaining high quality and productivity targets.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Medical Records or related field, 3 years inpatient hard coding experience, and relevant certifications (CPC, CIC, CCS, CCS-P, CCA) depending on client needs. COVID-era practices and HIPAA compliance apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Records or Allied Medical Field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum three (3) years inpatient hard coding experience, six months live accounts with a client.
• Certification is dependent on client requirements.
• AAPC Coding Certification: CPC, CIC
• AHIMA Coding Certification: CCS, CCS-P, CCA

Responsibilities

• Abstracts, codes, and sequences the classification of medical and surgical procedures, diagnosis, and treatment modalities on Inpatient and Day Surgeries.
• Reviews appropriate provider documentation to determine principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions, and surgical procedures.
• Assigns POA value for inpatient diagnoses as a supplement for ICD-10-CM coding.
• Assigns correct Principal Diagnosis, Secondary Diagnosis especially CC and/or MCC.
• Assigns correct DRG and performs coding compliance reviews; follows official guidelines.
• Writes a compliant query to the provider for documentation and coding improvement.
• Enters codes into encoder/abstracting system and reports productivity status.
• Identifies and reports areas of concern with respect to improper coding and documentation.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records at all times.
