Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in HVAC for on-site work in Metro Manila. You will design and optimize air-side and hydronic systems, perform load calculations, and prepare drawings and specifications for railway and infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and optimize HVAC systems (air-side and hydronic) for various projects.
• Conduct heating and cooling load calculations, pipe and duct sizing, and equipment selection.
• Prepare drawings, details, and P&IDs per project requirements.
• Document design iterations and test analytics in project repository.
• Ensure compliance with PNS, NFPA, ASHRAE, local and international standards.
• Perform site surveys, facility assessments, and feasibility studies as needed.
• Review vendor submittals and test reports for quality and compliance.
• Provide construction/technical support, RFIs, submittals, and operation manuals.
• Share best practices with junior engineers and designers.
• Collaborate with internal teams for seamless mechanical integration.

Context

The position is responsible for the design, development, and execution of HVAC System; entails full-cycle engineering from conceptual design and calculation to project coordination, specification preparation, construction support, and commissioning. The position will also provide mechanical support for sustainable railway and infrastructure efforts.

Missions/Main Duties

• Design, analyze, and optimize HVAC systems (air-side and hydronic) for commercial, industrial, infrastructures, and railway projects.
• Conduct heating and cooling load calculations, pipe and duct sizing, hydraulic calculation, select appropriate equipment for system efficiency and code compliance, and all other required mechanical calculations of the project.
• Drawings and mark-ups for plans, details, section, specifications, sequences of operations, control diagrams, and P&IDs as per project requirements.
• Ensure that the design process, iterations, and test analytics are documented and saved in the company’s server/specific project drive.
• Ensure compliance with Philippine National Standards (PNS), NFPA, ASHRAE standards, and relevant local regulations and international standards.
• As necessary/required in the project:
• perform site surveys, existing facility assessments, and feasibility studies for renovation, rehabilitation, and new projects.
• review and recommend approval of vendor submittals, technical proposals, and test reports, ensuring quality and compliance.
• provide construction/technical support, including RFIs, submittal reviews, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
• Initiate sharing of industry best practices to guide junior engineers and designers.
• Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into overall design.

Profile/Skills

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering; and
• PME & Master's degree is an advantage.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
• Proficient with engineering design programs such as HAP & other related software. Knowledge in AutoCad, Revit, and BIM is an advantage
• Solidly understands thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and building services engineering principles.
• Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles.
• Analytical, attentive to details, and promotes problem-resolution.
• Time management and organizational skills;
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Able to keep abreast with technology and engineering design trends.
