Job summary

Boise City/Ada County Housing Authorities seeks a full-time Housing Inspector to ensure compliance with HUD’s HQS and program requirements. The role combines field inspections with administrative duties to maintain safe, decent, and affordable housing across the community.

Job Description

The Boise City/Ada County Housing Authorities is seeking a full-time Housing Inspector to ensure compliance with HUD’s Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and other program requirements. This position involves both field inspections and administrative support functions that contribute to maintaining safe, decent, and affordable housing throughout the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of residential properties—both interior and exterior—based on HUD’s Housing Quality Standards (HQS).
  • Perform various types of inspections, including initial, annual, re-inspection, move-out, and vacant unit inspections.
  • Enforce HUD housing regulations, policies, and related codes, issuing letters or notices for properties found in violation.
  • Coordinate inspection scheduling and maintain detailed inspection and property records.
  • Conduct rent reasonableness testing to ensure fair market compliance.
  • Perform initial eligibility screening of local properties.
  • Engage in landlord outreach and communication to support program participation.
  • Draft and send correspondence to tenants and landlords regarding inspection outcomes and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate data in agency databases and prepare detailed reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Use standard software applications and tools associated with property inspections and recordkeeping.
Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, landlords, contractors, and the public.
  • Skilled in preparing clear and accurate reports and interpreting housing regulations.
  • Proficient in computer operations, including standard and customized applications related to inspection tasks.
  • Comfortable using inspection tools and equipment associated with the construction or housing trade.
  • Ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Housing Inspector Certification (if not currently held).
  • Valid Idaho driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Ability to work primarily in outdoor environments and drive between inspection sites in varying weather conditions.
Schedule and Benefits
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a similar position preferred. Schedule: Our office is closed on Fridays. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 10-hour days. Benefits:
