Job summary

Philippine Business For Social Progress, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform GeneXpert testing and accurately record results in the PMDT Laboratory Registry, releasing timely results to TB treatment centers.

Responsibilities include daily recording and reporting, device maintenance, cartridge stock control, and coordinating with the Program Officer to ensure tests run smoothly and compliance is maintained.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or allied health; RMT preferred.
• Experience: TB field experience with GeneXpert is an advantage.
• Skills: Minimal supervision, collaborative, computer-literate with MS Office/Google tools.

Responsibilities

• Conducts laboratory procedures using the GeneXpert.
• Performs the assay following SOPs and records results accurately.
• Coordinates with laboratory head for changes in running specimens.
• Daily recording and reporting; release results to TB treatment facilities.
• Submits monthly reports; ensures proper disposal and storage of cartridges.
• Maintain maintenance logs and coordinate equipment scheduling with Program Officer and Laboratory Officer.
• Support tracing of patients and monitoring of cartridge usage.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs laboratory test using the GeneXpert. He/She will accurately record results in the PMDT Laboratory Registry and releases timely results of the test to the treatment center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

A. Conducts laboratory procedures using the GeneXpert

2. Performs the assay in accordance with the standard operating procedure

3. Coordinates with the laboratory head for any changes in the running of specimen

4. Daily Recording and Reporting

i.Maintains up to date record of all specimens run using the GeneXpert machine

ii.Accurately record results in the PMDT Laboratory Registry

iii.Release results immediately to the TB treatment facilities

5. Submits monthly report to the laboratory head

6. Ensure proper disposal of cartridges used for assay

7. Ensure proper storage of cartridges, supplies and materials

8. Perform minor maintenance through daily cleaning of the machine’s surface

9. Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic equipment to the Program Officer and Laboratory Officer

B. Other Duties

1. Tracing of patients tested for recollection

2. Quantifies and monitors cartridges used for the assay on a weekly basis

3. Maintains a record of the status of cartridges, supplies and materials available on hand

4. Maintains a buffer of 2 weeks supply of cartridges, supplies, and materials to avoid stock out

5. Requests cartridges, supplies and materials needed for the assay on a weekly basis and forwards it to the laboratory head for approval through fax or email

6. Maintains a duplicate copy of all the major maintenance made on the machine (e.g. calibration, repair, etc.)

7. Should be available to all important events related to PMDT which would require his/her presence

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or any allied health courses Preferably a Registered Medical Technologist (RMT)

Experience : Previous experience working in the field of TB using GeneXpert Machine is an advantage

Other / Special Skills : Requires minimal supervision and takes ownership of all responsibilities assigned; Flexible and able to work collaboratively with colleagues; Computer literate with wide knowledge in Microsoft Office and Google tools/applications
