The Shared Service General Ledger Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, execution of month-end closing activities, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll accounting, financial analysis, and preparation of journal entries for multiple legal entities within a multinational shared service environment. The role ensures compliance with corporate accounting policies, IFRS, internal controls, and service level agreements (SLAs).
Key Responsibilities:
1. General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities within established timelines.
- Prepare and post recurring and manual journal entries.
- Ensure all accruals, prepayments, and provisions are accurately recorded.
- Execute month-end closing checklist and ensure completeness of financial records.
- Support timely submission of financial reporting packages.
2. Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve aged or unreconciled items promptly.
- Reconcile subsidiary ledgers with the General Ledger.
- Maintain reconciliation documentation and audit support schedules.
- Ensure compliance with company reconciliation policies..
3. Payroll Accounting
- Review payroll reports received from HR or payroll providers.
- Prepare and post payroll journal entries.
- Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts including:
- Employee deductions
- Government statutory liabilities
- Employee benefits
- Payroll clearing accounts
- Coordinate with HR and Payroll teams to resolve payroll discrepancies.Verify expense claims against company expense reimbursement guidelines.
- Prepare journal entries for cost and account reclassifications.
- Reclassify expenses based on management requirements or accounting standards.
- Ensure transactions are posted to the correct cost centers, departments, legal entities, and profit centers.
- Maintain adequate supporting documentation for all reclassification entries.
- Perform month-over-month and year-over-year variance (Flux) analysis.
- Identify significant fluctuations in Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet accounts.
- Investigate unusual movements and coordinate with business stakeholders for explanations.
- Prepare management commentary explaining key financial variances.
- Recommend corrective actions for identified issues.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, corporate accounting policies, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
- Ensure adherence to SOX and other regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Maintain complete audit trails for all journal entries and reconciliations.
7. Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to standardize and automate R2R processes.
- Participate in finance transformation and migration activities.
- Support implementation of ERP enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
8. Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with local finance teams, HR, Payroll, Tax, Treasury, and FP&A.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Support regional and global finance projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or equivalent.
- CPA designation is an advantage.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Record-to-Report (R2R), General Ledger, or Financial Accounting within a multinational shared service environment.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with Power BI is an advantage.
