Integri is a specialist functional safety consultancy with Philippines-based engineers contributing to real engineering analyses and client workshops for Australian and international projects. We seek a curious Graduate or Junior Functional Safety Engineer with strong technical foundations and clear communication to join our team.
You will develop in process safety and autonomous mining, taking on increasing responsibility for analyses, reports and client engagement as you grow in the role.
Integri is a specialist functional safety consultancy working where complex technology meets real-world risk.
We help international mining and process-industry clients introduce and operate safety-critical systems with confidence. Our purpose is to protect people, assets and the environment by helping clients innovate safely. Our vision is to be recognised across Australasia’s heavy industries for practical, ethical and innovative functional safety, and to help develop the next generation of functional safety engineers.
We are a small but rapidly growing consultancy supporting major Australian and international projects. Our Philippines based engineers are part of the technical delivery team, not a back-office support function. They contribute to real engineering analysis, client deliverables, and workshops.
This is an engineering role focused on how equipment, control systems, software and people interact to prevent hazardous events. It is not a general occupational health and safety position.
We are looking for a curious, capable and motivated Graduate or Junior Functional Safety Engineer to join our team.
You do not need previous functional safety experience. We are looking for someone with strong technical foundations, excellent communication skills and the potential to develop into a high-quality engineer.
The role offers exposure to two rapidly developing fields:
Process and industrial functional safety, including process hazard studies, safety instrumented systems and complex industrial machinery.
Autonomous mining and mobile equipment, including autonomous haulage, sensing and positioning, collision avoidance, remote operation, machine control and safe‑stop systems.
One week you might support a HAZOP or LOPA for a process facility. The next, you could be analysing hazards or developing safety requirements for an autonomous vehicle, drill, stockyard machine or emerging automation technology.
As your capability develops, you will progressively take greater ownership of technical analysis, reports, workshops and client engagement.
Support HAZID, HAZOP, HRA, LOPA and ALARP/SFAIRP studies.
Analyse complex systems using Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA and other structured techniques.
Help identify safety functions and define SIL, performance‑level and other integrity requirements.
Develop functional safety plans, Safety Requirements Specifications, hazard logs and verification requirements.
Review autonomous and safety‑critical systems, including sensors, positioning, communications, control, braking, steering and fail‑safe responses.
Support design reviews, verification and validation activities, audits and functional safety assessments.
Contribute throughout the safety lifecycle from concept and risk assessment through design, testing, commissioning, operation and modification.
Prepare clear technical reports, presentations and workshop materials for Australian and international clients.
Work with standards including IEC 61508, IEC 61511, AS/ISO 17757, ISO 19014 and relevant machinery‑safety standards.
Contribute to the development of Integri’s engineering methods, tools, training materials and quality‑management system.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Mining, Systems or Software Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another closely related technical discipline.
A strong academic record from a recognised university.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
An interest in complex systems, industrial automation, risk and emerging technology.
High attention to detail and the ability to produce clear, well‑structured work.
Initiative, curiosity and a willingness to ask thoughtful questions.
The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small technical team.
A genuine commitment to learning and developing as an engineer.
Previous experience in automation, control systems, process safety, mining, risk analysis or systems engineering would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Graduates and early‑career engineers are encouraged to apply.
Direct mentoring from experienced and internationally certified functional safety experts.
Structured development across both process safety and autonomous mining.
Meaningful technical work and early exposure to real projects and clients.
Support toward recognised functional safety certification.
Support toward further education and Chartered Engineer status.
Opportunities to participate in workshops, training and industry activities.
Potential international travel as your experience develops. During the past two years, our junior engineers have travelled to Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Japan.
A competitive salary and benefits package.
The opportunity to help shape a growing specialist consultancy, rather than becoming one person in a large graduate program.
If you want a conventional graduate role with a narrow scope, this may not be the right fit. If you want to work on difficult engineering problems, learn rapidly and help shape the safe introduction of new industrial technology, we would like to hear from you.
