Job summary

Sun Life in the Philippines is seeking a Risk Specialist to support the Head of Risk Management in implementing effective risk programs and processes. You will be part of the second line of defense, helping identify, measure, monitor, and report risk across financial risk areas including FRM and MEUC.

The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, strong analytical ability, and experience in financial risk management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Economics, or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience on Financial Risk Management.
• Strong grasp of trust/banking business, technical issues or trust/banking trends.
• FRM, or CFA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, analyze and ensure completeness of the daily risk management reports, including limits utilization.
• Prepare, analyze and ensure completeness and accuracy of the monthly, quarterly and annual / semi-annual risk metrics & indicators, risk management reports and other reports.
• Review, analyze and provide recommendations on financial risk limits to policies and operating guidelines ensuring BSP compliance.
• Collaborate to ensure annual review, roll-out, renewal and implementation of operating guidelines and compliance.
• Identify limit breaches and monitor action plans to address non-compliance; assist in risk initiatives across theBU.

The Risk Specialist shall assist the Head – Risk Management in implementing effective risk programs, policies and processes for the management of financial risks resulting from business activities and in accordance with the Risk Management Guidelines of the BSP and with Sun Life Group policies.

The FRM Risk Specialist shall assist in identifying, measuring, monitoring, and reporting risk as part of the second line of defense and shall support the business in building a strong and healthy risk environment by ensuring that appropriate policies and control procedures are in place. The Risk Specialist shall also assist in rolling out risk and control initiatives across all various financial risk areas such as but not limited to Financial Risk Management (FRM) and Model and End User Computing (MEUC).

Responsibilities

Management Reporting:

• Prepare, analyze and ensure completeness of the various financial daily risk management reports, including limits utilization.
• Prepare, analyze and ensure completeness and accuracy of the monthly, quarterly and annual / semi-annual risk metrics & indicators, risk management (including Risk and Compliance Management Committee and Board reports) and other reports.

Governance, Oversight and Risk Management

• Review, analyze and provide recommendations on the various financial risk limits to be prescribed by risk management policies and operating guidelines ensuring compliance with local regulatory (i.e. BSP) requirements.
• Work collaboratively with others to ensure the annual review, roll-out, renewal, implementation of and compliance on the various operating guidelines.
• Assist in identifying (i.e. limit breaches) and monitoring action plans to address policy/operating guidelines non-compliance.
• Assist in the roll-out of corporate driven financial risk management initiatives for implementation in the BU.
• The position also handles financial risk management related queries and /or elevates the same to the Head – Risk Management as necessary.
• Promote risk awareness via initiatives that include risk and control trainings to strengthen the Risk Culture of the business unit.
• Assist in the development Ensures that risk based measurement and reporting metrics, including risk limits and exception reporting.

Others

• Act as an Administrator for the SLIMTC Archer particularly - MEU risk management database (MEUC)
• Other functions that may be assigned by the Head – Risk Management
