Job summary

Manulife is seeking a Financial Analyst to perform moderately complex financial analyses, journal entries, account reconciliations, and close processes. The role supports internal and external reporting and assists with audits and regulatory filings.

Hybrid work arrangement (3x onsite weekly) in Quezon City, Philippines, with night shift flexibility. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance and 2–4 years of relevant experience, plus strong Excel and ERP skills such as Essbase

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience of 2 to 4 years.
  • Amenable to night shift work schedule and hybrid work set up of 3x a week onsite (Quezon City).
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations)
  • Demonstrates broad based analytical and inquiry skills to understand legal entity financial statements, board reports, and/or filings.
  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of several specific reporting concepts as they relate to a specific area of focus (for example: specific footnote disclosures)
  • Effective interaction and communication skills to communicate issues to management and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to attain a working knowledge of CGAAP, USGAAP, and NAIC accounting bases as they pertain to the insurance industry in general.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the life insurance regulatory environment (SEC Product Filings, OFSI, or Statutory compliance).
  • Strong computer skills and an advanced knowledge of MS Excel and the Essbase add-in
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Lawson accounting segments and Essbase roll ups.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with JETS to create and post journal entries.
  • Demonstrates strong organization and documentation skills to evidence a clear audit trail for work performed

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing advanced accounting activities such as creating standard and non-standard journal entries, reconciling complex general ledger accounts, and preparing state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages.
  • Analyze financial results, detect aberrations and provide commentary with respect to specific areas of focus.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Assist in month end/quarterly/year end close and reporting; assist with annual audit and financial statement preparation.
  • Mentor staff accountants and compile ad hoc accounting analyses for other business partners.
  • Support internal and external audits and share best practices with team members.
  • Assist directors, managers and other team members on various projects and analyses.

Job description

The Financial Analyst role, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting moderately complex financial, accounting and economic analyses, including journal entry preparation, detailed calculations and internal and external reporting. Duties may include assisting in the preparation of journal entries by compiling, analyzing, and substantiating financial transactions as needed, reconciling accounts as requested, assist in month end/quarterly/year end close process and reporting. assisting in the annual audit, including year-end schedule and financial statement preparation and assisting with the preparation of tax and regulatory reports.

Position Responsibilities

  • Also, responsible for analyzing financial results, detecting aberrations and providing commentary with respect to specific areas of focus.
