Job summary

NightOwl Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator in the Operations department. You will prepare accurate estimates for custom stainless steel kitchen equipment, exhaust hoods, countertops, and related fabrications, collaborating with designers, contractors, and production teams.

The role requires analyzing drawings, performing takeoffs, and delivering competitive pricing. Strong communication and time-management skills are essential to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years of experience in estimating, preferably within metal fabrication or construction industries.
• Proficiency in estimating software (Bluebeam, Planswift) and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Analyze drawings and specifications to determine material, labor, and production requirements for stainless steel fabrications.
• Perform detailed takeoffs for countertops, equipment, exhaust hoods, sinks, and claddings.
• Prepare accurate project estimates using estimating software and Excel with competitive pricing.
• Communicate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and timelines.
• Solicit and review quotes from vendors to determine material costs and procurement.
• Maintain records of all estimates, takeoffs, and revisions for current and historical projects.
• Collaborate with project managers and shop teams to hand off information when projects are awarded.
• Research industry trends and costs to ensure cost-efficiency and competitiveness.

Description

As an Estimator, you will play a vital role in the project bidding and pre-construction phase by preparing accurate estimates for custom stainless steel kitchen equipment, exhaust hoods, countertops, and related fabrications. You will collaborate closely with designers, contractors, and internal production teams to ensure that all project requirements are thoroughly assessed, quantified, and priced with precision.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze architectural drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications to determine material, labor, and production requirements for custom stainless steel fabrications.
• Perform detailed takeoffs for stainless steel components, including countertops, kitchen equipment, exhaust hoods, sinks, wall claddings, and shelving.
• Prepare accurate and timely project estimates using estimating software and Excel, ensuring competitive and profitable pricing.
• Communicate directly with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify project details, specifications, and timelines.
• Solicit and review quotes from vendors to determine material costs and optimize procurement.
• Maintain accurate records of all estimates, takeoffs, and revisions for current and historical projects.
• Collaborate with project managers and shop production teams to ensure a seamless handoff of information once projects are awarded.
• Proactively research industry trends, material costs, and fabrication advancements to ensure cost-efficiency and maintain competitiveness.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years of experience in estimating, preferably within the metal fabrication or construction industries.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of stainless steel materials, fabrication processes, and finishes used in the food service industry.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational abilities, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
