Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up assembly and test stations in collaboration with engineers.
  • Design, select, and test machine upgrades to improve efficiency.
  • Author operating instructions and provide maintenance documentation.
  • Report on equipment uptime and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Develop automation solutions and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Train staff on new equipment and processes.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Setting‑up assembly and test stations by collaborating with Product and Process Engineers to build user‑friendly workstations that include assembly machines, test equipment, jigs, fixtures, and software interfaces to automate the entire process.
  • Design, selection, and buy‑off of machines and equipment, considering product and process requirements; designing, installing, and testing equipment upgrades and modifications to improve uptime, yield, cycle time, and throughput.
  • Authoring machine and equipment operating instructions and manuals; providing maintenance documents for all equipment and ensuring maintenance activities are performed on schedule; performing FMEA studies and maintaining out‑of‑control action plans.
  • Reporting on equipment uptime, maintenance effectiveness, and maintenance costs versus plan against various functions.
  • Developing assembly and test automation solutions, including design, development, simulation, and testing of automated processes; creating graphic user interfaces that are user‑friendly, automate data gathering and analysis, and generate reports.
  • Leading training of Engineers, Technicians, and Operators in operation and maintenance of newly introduced equipment and automation processes.
  • Supporting new equipment installation and vendor qualification for new parts.
Education & Experience
  • BS in Electronics Engineering (Physics, Electrical or related fields). Post‑graduate studies are highly regarded.
  • At least 5 years of experience in semiconductor, electronics, optoelectronics, or fiber‑optic industry with proven track record in electrical/electronic manufacturing.
  • Strong programming knowledge focused on factory automation (assembly and test processes); familiarity with object‑oriented programming (C/C++, Visual Basic) and SQL queries.
  • Cleanroom experience and knowledge of laser and optical systems, power meters, source‑measure units; experience with SPC and process control methodologies.
  • Mechanical aptitude with AutoCAD skills considered a plus.
Skills
  • Knowledge of fiber‑optic and micro‑optics device physics.
  • Hands‑on experience with basic optical fiber skills: fusion splicing, cleaving, termination, and testing.
  • Familiarity with optical testing equipment: laser sources, tunable lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, BR meters, OTDR, etc.
  • Understanding of statistical manufacturing methods (correlation, hypothesis testing, variance analysis, Six Sigma, SPC). Experience with SAS, JMP, or Minitab is a strong plus.
  • Experience with laboratory photonics testing and measurement.
  • Knowledge of industry equipment communication interfaces (GPIB, RS232, USB) and ability to program routine interactions; familiarity with PLC, HMI, and microcontroller automation.
  • Strong industry automation skills: motion control, vision systems, optical inspection, data management, and analysis.
  • Ability to interpret product design specifications and develop robust automated processes that ensure productivity, quality, and reliability.
  • Business acumen: managing budgets, leading a team, and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Safety competence: interpreting material safety data sheets and establishing proper safety practices.
  • Attention to detail, system‑level thinking, and strong written and verbal communication.
