Job summary

Grandspan Development Corporation is seeking an Engineering Manager for its structural steel fabrication projects. You will lead the Engineering Department, overseeing design, detailing, estimating, drafting, and project coordination to ensure client requirements, standards, and specifications are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, licensed.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the structural steel fabrication industry.
• Extensive experience in structural detailing and estimating (shop drawings, fabrication drawings, take-offs, quantity surveying, cost estimation).
• Strong knowledge of structural steel design, fabrication, erection, and applicable codes/standards.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and related detailing/estimating software.
• Excellent leadership and project management skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration with clients and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation, review, and approval of engineering designs, shop drawings, erection drawings, fabrication drawings, and project estimates.

• Coordinate with clients, project managers, subcontractors, and other departments to resolve technical issues.
• Establish engineering standards, cost databases, and best practices to improve estimating accuracy.
• Conduct site inspections and meetings to provide engineering support.
• Monitor performance, prepare reports, and drive continuous improvements.

Job Summary

This role requires a strategic leader with strong technical expertise in structural steel detailing and estimating, capable of driving operational excellence while managing multiple engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Engineering Department, including detailing, estimating, drafting, and engineering personnel.

• Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of engineering designs, shop drawings, erection drawings, fabrication drawings, and project estimates.

• Review RFQs, technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents to ensure accurate project interpretation and execution.

• Ensure all engineering deliverables are accurate, competitive, and completed within project schedules and quality standards.

• Coordinate with clients, project managers, subcontractors, and other departments to resolve technical issues and support project implementation.

• Establish engineering standards, cost databases, and best practices to improve estimating accuracy and detailing efficiency.

• Conduct site inspections and technical meetings to provide engineering support and practical solutions.

• Monitor departmental performance, prepare engineering reports, and implement continuous process improvements.

• Mentor, train, and evaluate engineering personnel to promote technical excellence and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably a Licensed Civil Engineer.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the structural steel fabrication industry, including engineering management.

• Must have extensive experience in handling structural steel detailing and estimating, including shop drawings, fabrication drawings, material take-offs, quantity surveying, and cost estimation for structural steel projects.

• Strong knowledge of structural steel design, fabrication, erection, engineering drawings, and applicable engineering codes and standards.

• Proficient in AutoCAD and other engineering, detailing, and estimating software.

• Excellent leadership, project management, analytical, and decision-making skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
