Job description

The Energy Pricing and Strategy Officer is responsible for developing, evaluating, and optimizing energy pricing strategies, commercial offerings, and portfolio initiatives that support the company's growth, profitability, and competitive position in the energy market. The role conducts market, economic, and financial analyses to identify opportunities, manage pricing risks, and support informed decision-making across the organization.

The position plays a key role in energy portfolio optimization, product development, bid evaluation, and regulatory impact assessment. The officer collaborates closely with commercial, trading, regulatory, finance, and operations teams to ensure that pricing structures and strategic initiatives align with market conditions, customer requirements, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Energy Pricing Strategy and Commercial Analysis
  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance energy pricing strategies that balance profitability, competitiveness, and risk exposure.
  • Conduct economic, financial, and market analyses to support pricing decisions, contract structuring, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop pricing models, financial simulations, and scenario analyses to assess market opportunities and commercial risks.
  • Monitor electricity market trends, fuel price movements, demand forecasts, and competitor activities to provide actionable insights.
  • Evaluate the impact of regulatory developments, market reforms, and policy changes on pricing strategies and business performance.
  • Prepare recommendations and business cases for strategic pricing and commercial decisions.
Product Development and Commercial Innovation
  • Lead or support the evaluation, design, and enhancement of energy products, services, and alternative contractual arrangements.
  • Assess the commercial viability of new offerings through financial modeling, market assessment, and customer analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for innovative products and value-added services that address customer needs and market demands.
  • Support the development of solutions that strengthen customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
Portfolio Optimization and Strategic Planning
  • Support portfolio optimization initiatives through market analysis, forecasting, and performance evaluation.
  • Analyze portfolio exposures and recommend strategies to maximize value while managing commercial and market risks.
  • Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses to assess the impact of market movements on portfolio performance.
  • Prepare regular portfolio performance reports and strategic recommendations for management review.
Competitive Bidding and Business Development Support
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of competitive supply proposals and customer bids.
  • Develop pricing assumptions and financial evaluations to ensure commercially sound bid submissions.
  • Provide market intelligence and strategic insights to support customer acquisition initiatives.
  • Work with commercial and sales teams to develop tailored pricing solutions for prospective and existing customers.
Customer Resolution and Commercial Support
  • Support the resolution of customer concerns related to pricing, billing, invoicing, and contract interpretation.
  • Conduct financial and commercial analyses to investigate disputed charges and recommend equitable resolutions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to address customer issues while protecting the company's interests.
  • Assist in improving processes and controls related to pricing implementation and billing accuracy.
Market Intelligence and Regulatory Monitoring
  • Monitor developments in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), retail electricity market, and broader energy sector.
  • Analyze market conditions and emerging trends to identify risks, opportunities, and strategic implications.
  • Track relevant regulations, policies, and industry developments affecting pricing, contracting, and market participation.
  • Prepare management updates, market reports, and strategic briefings.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Reporting
  • Collaborate with Trading, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Legal, Operations, and other internal teams on strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in industry forums, working groups, and stakeholder discussions as required.
  • Present analyses, recommendations, and business insights to management and key stakeholders.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations to facilitate decision-making.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Energy Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
  • Experience in the power, energy, utilities, finance, consulting, or related industries is an advantage.
  • Exposure to energy markets, pricing analysis, financial modeling, or economic research is preferred but not required for entry-level candidates.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis, pricing methodologies, and economic principles.
  • Ability to interpret large datasets and generate actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Python, or other analytics tools is an advantage.
  • Understanding of electricity markets, WESM, retail electricity supply, and energy trading is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in energy economics, pricing strategy, portfolio management, energy trading support, or commercial analytics.
  • Familiarity with Philippine energy industry regulations, ERC policies, and WESM operations.
  • Experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Professional certifications or advanced studies in Economics, Finance, Data Analytics, Energy Management, or related fields are an advantage.
