The Electrical Engineer – Technical Manager is responsible for leading, coaching, standardizing, and auditing the office engineering team to ensure accurate technical designs, reliable cost estimates, consistent engineering standards, and efficient project support. The role focuses on strengthening engineering processes, developing standards and tools, monitoring team performance, and ensuring quality and technical compliance across projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and provide technical direction to the office engineering team.
- Assign and monitor engineering tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs, and work standards.
- Conduct regular performance monitoring, coaching, and feedback sessions.
2. Engineering Standards & Process Development
- Develop and maintain standard costing guides, Bill of Materials (BOM) templates, and engineering design standards.
- Establish standardized procedures for electrical take-offs, estimating, design, and technical documentation.
- Ensure engineering practices are consistent, efficient, and aligned with company requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate engineering processes.
3. Training & Technical Coaching
- Train and coach engineers on electrical quantity take-offs, cost estimating, technical design, and project requirements.
- Provide guidance on proper interpretation of plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Develop the technical capabilities and problem-solving skills of the engineering team.
4. Technical Review & Quality Control
- Review high-value, high-risk, complex, or unusual projects and provide technical recommendations.
- Conduct random audits of quotations, estimates, take-offs, and technical submissions to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Identify recurring engineering errors and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure engineering outputs comply with applicable standards, specifications, and company requirements.
5. Technical Issue & Complaint Resolution
- Investigate technical Incident Reports (IRs), engineering-related errors, and customer complaints.
- Determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate with concerned departments to resolve technical issues efficiently.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Project Management to ensure alignment of technical requirements, costing, materials, and project execution.
- Provide technical support and clarification to other departments when required.
- Ensure engineering information is properly communicated across relevant teams.
7. Performance Management
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate engineering team KPIs and performance metrics.
- Analyze team performance, productivity, accuracy, and recurring issues.
- Recommend appropriate actions to improve team efficiency, quality, and accountability.
8. Continuous Improvement & Automation
- Identify inefficiencies, recurring issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Recommend and implement engineering workflow improvements, standardization, and automation.
- Promote the use of appropriate tools and systems to improve accuracy, productivity, and turnaround time.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Licensed Electrical Engineer (preferred/required depending on company requirements).
- Significant experience in electrical engineering, estimating, technical design, or project engineering.
- Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and developing engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, quantity take-offs, costing, BOM preparation, and technical documentation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, coordination, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in relevant engineering and estimating software.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy and quality.
